ARCHITECT DESIGNS LOFT UTILIZING RESTORED RAIL CAR

Using a 1945 rail car from the former Road Sorocabana iron, architect Léo Shehtman designed a minimalist lounge and functional home for the 30th edition of the CasaCorSP_2016, the largest architecture and interior design event in Latin America taking place from May 17 to July 10 at the Jockey Club.

The idea of using an old rail car for the show came to Léo when he realized the beauty and practicality of living in a small villa. By recreating the charm and size of these structures, he discovered the possibility of shorten construction times and reduced costs from those typically associated with more traditional structures. Additionally, recovering industrial components and using recycled materials – such as an old rail car -- contributes to the environment and allows architects to further explore innovative constructive solutions. In the United States, rail cars have been used in homes since the 1980s. Léo began the endeavour with a rusty train full of graffiti, which not only gave way to a luxurious lounge decorated in Art Deco style, but also presented the idea of bringing this practice to life in Brazil.  http://casa.abril.com.br/casa-cor/mostras/sao-paulo
