We (Nomadic Martial Arts) are a community grass roots martial arts program that runs a Taekwondo club out of Chalmers Community Centre. We are always looking for ways to "build a more peaceful world" by starting in the community. When we heard about Christmas cheer board we wanted to be apart of it right away, we happened to be the first people to request to sponsor a family this season. We requested a family in the elmwood area. We were super excited about that. Our students were just as excited, one of the families has a local cleaning business and they had donated the funds for us to sponsor an additional family! So we sponsored 2 families, instead of one. As a club we came together and we're able to purchase 22 gifts for the total of 5 children. We also were able to provide them with at least a week or two of groceries! The kids in the club had the opportunity to pack up boxes of food and wrap all the presents Thursday night. We then delivered the hampers to the families. The looks on their faces were priceless. The parents were ever so thankful and the children's faces lit up. It made it all worth it, we will definitely be doing this again in the years to come.
