President's Notes

by Dave Coppock

Happy New Year, Rimrunners! If you’re looking for a good way to jump start your running goals for 2022, join us for our annual New Years Day Run, bright and early January 1st, 9:00 am at Riverfront Park. Although the forecast looks cold, we’ve had worse and the club has never failed to show up on the first morning of the new year with a run. It’s a great way to get started on, and keep up, the running habit.

In addition to our weekly club runs, we’ll again have an early opportunity to race, Sunday, February 13 at the Froze Noze Run and Bowling Biathlon, with the Hillmans again organizing the event out at the Town and Country Lanes near Shepherd. It’s Super Bowl Sunday!

As of now, we’re still planning on hosting the Shamrock Run, March 13 as a live event with the option of participants electing to run virtually. The club hasn’t hosted the live running of the event since 2019. We’re excited to be back out live at Pioneer Park in March.

There’s a lot of running to look forward to in 2022 between our regular club runs as well as numerous local races. Come out and join us on Wednesday nights. And, if I could suggest a great New Year’s resolution, bring a friend out to walk, jog, or run!

2021 Run! Turkey Run! Donates $40,000

We are pleased to announce that our Run! Turkey Run! race has donated $40,000 to local food pantries and programs. Thank you for your participation and support with the in-person and virtual run.

$10,000 to the Adult Resource Alliance to support the Meals on Wheels Program, which delivers hot meals to home bound seniors over the age of 60.
$10,000 to The Education Foundation of Billings Public Schools for the BackPack Meals Program. This program provides nutritious, shelf stable, ready-to-eat meals each weekend and school holiday to chronically hungry elementary school students in the Billings school district.
$10,000 to Family Service, Inc. to support the food program they provide
$5,000 to MSU Billings Foundation to support the Yellowjacket Emergency Food Pantry for students in need.
$5,000 to Rocky Mountain College to support the Bear's Cupboard for students in need.

Also thank you to our generous sponsors including Billings Clinic, Wise Wonders Science and Discovery Museum, Western Security Bank and Velum Skin and Laser Center.

Last but not least, this run wouldn't have been possible without the dedicated effort from our race committee consisting of (alphabetical order): Dave Coppock, Brad Coutant, Christina Gomer, Sarah Grau, Vince Long, Elysia Mangum, and Shelley Phelps.
Adult Resource Alliance. From left to right: Pam Makara (program director), Brent Cromley (board member, long time Rim Runner), Jamie Carpenter (Meals on Wheels coordinator), Brad Coutant (Rim Runners board member, donation distributor), Duane Loken (board member), and Ben McKee (board member).

Over Ten Years and $316,000 Donated

The first ever Run! Turkey Run! was held on Thanksgiving Day in 2011. The goal was to raise money to raise awareness and fight hunger in Billings. The idea was inspired by Kelly Fulton, a local runner, who approached the Rim Runners. The run has been an important part of the Billings community since then.

Holiday Light Runs

A big shout out to Shelley Phelps, who organized December's five holiday light runs. The routes took us through major decorated neighborhoods, including Christmas Wreath Lane. It was holiday cheer with a Rim Runners flair.

Hope you enjoyed running in 2021 and many more miles await in 2022.
Happy New Year!
