Walkability & Commuter Challenge in Billings

On April 6, the city of Billings in conjunction with several local organizations hosted a public presentation called "Billings: Walkable City in the West". The main speaker was Jeff Speck, an urban planner and architectural designer. He encouraged decreasing speed limits, redesigning traffic flow, and adding bike lanes to make Billings safer for walkers, runners, and bikers. Interested in learning more? Check out Jeff Speck's TED talk.

The 2022 Commuter Challenge starts June 1. Win prizes for redesigning your commute by being more physically active and supporting environmentally friendly transportation methods.

President's Notes

by Dave Coppock

It’s great to be out in some nice, spring weather after our winter setback in April. Near the end of the month we had a great turnout, around 25 or so, at our adopted Rimrunners trail cleanup along part of our Canyon Creek route. It was great to see so many out pitching in and the trail looks much better, so thanks, everyone!

We have a full plate of running events coming up in May starting with the 41st running of the Montana Women's Run on May 7th. Originally a Rimrunners event, it is now organized by the non profit Montana Women's Run Organization, which has donated back over $1.5 million to the Billings Community over the past 20 years. So, please come out and run, or if you’d like to volunteer go to and follow the link to volunteering.

Some other events coming up in May are the Last Best Beer Run on May 21st and the new Queen Bee Montana Marathon on May 22nd. Remember our Wednesday night club runs as well!

Trail Cleanup - A Success

In celebration of Earth Day, the Rimrunners cleaned the trail that we sponsor off of 24th Street West. Nearly 2 dozen volunteers came out to pick up the litter and trash that has accumulated all winter. Our efforts paid off with a radiant clean trail and dozens of extra large trash bags filled to the brim. If you get a chance, take a run or walk on the trail and savor the squeaky clean trail.

A big shout out to Danielle Kober, who organized the event!

Interested in future trail cleanups? Save the dates - 1:00pm on Sundays, June 12 and October 9.
