President's Notes

by Dave Coppock

But, what do I get?

Yes, what do you get? What do you get for joining the Yellowstone Rimrunners? There are a few tangible things like a discount at Time Out Sports or maybe our Three Free races, or a Rimrunners buff.  Besides things you get for your Rimrunners membership, consider some things you might contribute, as well!

The Yellowstone Rimrunners are a non profit organization to promote running and fitness in the greater Billings area. Part of that mission is contributing to our community to make it a better place to run, for sure, but also to bike and walk.

Just a few things the Rimrunners have contributed to in the past few years are; funding the vault toilet on BlackOtter Trail (VERY beneficial!), donating over a quarter million dollars to Billings food charities (Run Turkey Run), donating to ‘Shoes For Kids’, helping sponsor the ‘Yes For Kids’ cross country meet (1,000 grade school kids), a bench at Dover Park commemorating our friend Tony Banovich, contributing annually to Billings TrailNet and our weekly Wednesday and Saturday runs open to anyone to walk, jog, or run. We’ve also adopted a section of Billings trails between S. 29th St W., and 24th St., to clean up three times a year. Oh, and there may have been some stealth trail improvement effort on a popular Rims trail.

So, what do you get? Maybe, consider what you can give. By coming out and joining the Rimrunners to run or walk, you can not only contribute to your own fitness and health goals, but contribute to making Billings a healthy running and walking community. Not a bad return for joining a group of runners and walkers that could benefit you as well as your community!

Ringing in a New Year of Running

Nearly twenty dedicated runners braved the -7 F temperatures to start 2022 off on a runner's high. One runner perfectly summarized the experience of cold weather running by exclaiming "it feels like my face is going to fall off". Fortunately, no frostbite was sustained and calories were replenished with post-run potluck treats.
