Special Notice: YRR Membership Changes

Thank you to the many new and returning members who have already signed up for their annual membership to the Yellowstone Rim Runners (YRR)! For those of you who joined YRR last year during the Shamrock Run, your current membership expires this month.

To maximize membership benefits, we are changing how you sign up for the club this year. Club membership is no longer tied to registration for the Shamrock Run and you will sign up for the Club separately. You will receive a one-year membership from the date you sign up. Membership dues are $15 for an individual and $24 for a family, plus a processing fee.

Don't miss out on all the great Yellowstone Rim Runner membership benefits!

Shamrock Run

3.6.21 to 3.21.21

We're hosting a virtual event this year and it's free! Choose either the 5K or 10K and run any course you'd like. The Shamrock Run kicks off the spring racing season and a virtual race is great motivation for training. If that's not enough, do it for the pint glass! Pint glass pick-up details on the Shamrock Run registration link below.
(Note: YRR membership is no longer part of Shamrock Run registration; details above.)

Keep it up! Couch to 5K

Starts 2.7.21

Way to go couch to 5k folks! You are off to a great start and have just a few more weeks to finish training and run the Shamrock Run 5K this month. Join us as we follow this six week Couch to 5K training program on Instagram or Facebook. Check out our Club Runs if you'd like some company.

Club Runs

Wednesday 6pm & Saturday 7am

March 13 is daylight savings time, so our Wednesday night runs will get lighter very soon! Until then, it is still dark, so wear your headlamps and reflective clothing. March has five Wednesdays, so we get to run at the Divide Bar & Grille, our 5th Wednesday location. We are still following our COVID guidelines, so please stay home if you are feeling ill, socially distance, and wear your mask for any pre- and post-run socializing.

We run 5 miles every Wednesday night at 6 pm (location varies) and 10K every Saturday morning at 7 am from the YMCA. Runners and walkers of all speeds welcome and routes can be adjusted if you need a shorter distance.

President's Letter

by Dave Coppock

I’m going to go out on a limb and report that winter is about over, but I know better after living most of my life in Montana. We were able to keep the Club runs going, for the most part and thanks to Dan and Nancy Hillman, who organized the Froze Noze Run on Super Bowl Sunday, we even had a winter road race.

We’re still under some restrictions from the pandemic and as a result, our annual Shamrock Run will be virtual for this year, but we expect some good participation. The Rimrunners’s first Shamrock Run was held in 1982 and was a small club run starting at Guy and Debra Cox’s house on Avenue C and was followed by a potluck. Eventually, we opened the run up to bring in more participants and the race grew over the years to over 500 runners. We’re hoping to get back to those days soon!

The Froze Noze Biathlon 2021

by Nancy Hillman, Race Co-Director

We had some amazing runners come and brave the weather. Traditionally, The Froze Noze was a 2 and 4 mile Biathlon. This year, due to COVID, we offered a 5K run with or without the bowling.

The Froze Noze Biathlon is one of the longest running races in the area. It is not a big race, but it is the most fun. We think it is a wonderful family race.

We have the best sponsors: The Yellowstone Rim Runners, Time Out Sports, Universal Awards and the participants themselves.

February Strava Segment Challenge

Unfortunately, we did not have any participants in our February Strava Segment Challenge along Pioneer Park that were both YRR Strava and YRR Club members. We had some extreme cold when this was originally scheduled and our Pioneer Park club run was canceled. Stay tuned for future challenges and motiving ideas. Join YRR on Strava!

Blast from the Past: 2011 Froze Noze

Runners at the starting line of the Froze Noze ten years ago. Looks like there was a little less snow and maybe wasn't quite as cold as this year. But there are lots of familiar faces! See the March 2011 newsletter for more pictures.
