Welcome Wil van der Meulen,
SkillsUSA North Caroolina's new Postsecondary Support Director
We are excited to announce a new arrival to our SkillsUSA North Carolina team - Wil van der Meulen! Wil will serve as our Postsecondary Support Darictor, providing assistance and support for all postsecondary chapters. Wil comes to us from Nash Community College, where he served as the main SkillsUSA advisor for several years until his retirement last summer.
Wil worked at Nash CC from 2003 to 2022, in various roles. In 2015, as Associate Dean of Instructional Support, he started their SkillsUSA Chapter, "under orders"! Despite his reluctance to do "one more thing", he quickly learned that SkillsUSA was not "one more thing" but a long overdue and very much needed platform for student success, specifically Employability skills training (The SkillsUSA Framework) and a platform to prove skill attainment excellence (SkillsUSA Competitions).
Wil was especially interested in providing students' employability skills. As Associate Dean of Student Services and Curriculum Support, over the years he attended well over 100 Advisory Committee Meetings with employers. During literally all of those meetings, employers stressed the need for employability skills training for postsecondary learners. A unique curriculum integration tool was created at Nash CC by Nash CC instructors called the "Skillibus". The Skillibus was created for the 10 programs involved in the Nash CC Chapter. The Skillibus was finalized in its current form in 2018 after going through several iterations.
Reach out to Wil whenever you wish, regardless of your status as a veteran SkillsUSA chapter advisor or an instructor/college who simply wants more for your students in achieving their potential.
