1.  The Northamptonshire Picture Exclusions and Off-rolling

FAO:    All
From:  Children First Northamptonshire (CFN)

On the 28th March Northampton International Academy held a very successful conference on Exclusion and off-rolling. The opening speaker was Emma Ing, Regional Director of Ofsted who addressed the conference on the new Ofsted framework and the impact this will have on supporting inclusive practice. She raised two particular points in relation to Northamptonshire; the high number of electively home educated pupils and the high numbers of primary permanent exclusions. Both of these are areas Ofsted will be looking at in detail under the new framework.

There were presentations from Lincolnshire, Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Northamptonshire. Please see the link below to the slides presented by Northamptonshire.

The information presented will help to support the review of the SEMH pathway, an area a number of you are already engaged with. The Northampton Secondary Heads are continuing to work together to look at a range of proposals  to reduce exclusions and develop provision  to support students at an early stage; we will keep you informed, via the Friday Bulletin, of the progress of this and other groups working to reduce exclusions across Northamptonshire.

From 1st May until the 24th May our resources team will be engaged in adapting SATs papers for those children in the county sitting KS1 and KS2 SATs this academic year.  Therefore you may experience a delay in receiving adapted work being returned to you.   We suggest that any urgent work needed for this period be sent in for adapting at the beginning of next week before staff begin SATs work.

If you have any queries regarding this please feel free to contact Jacqui Joseph on 01604 364770 or at the following email address, SIS@childrenfirstnorthamptonshire.co.uk

Thank you for your support during this period.

3. Early Help Triage Clinics

FAO:   Early Help Co-ordinators
From:  Children First Northamptonshire (CFN)

Early Help Coordinators organise early help triage clinics to offer 20-30 minute appointment slots for discussion around families with EHAs where you feel ‘stuck’ and seek information, advice, and guidance. There will also be a Senior Practitioner attending from the 0-19 Targeted Support Team.

Please find below links for forthcoming triage events at Thorplands Children's Centre. Alternative dates and venues will be published in future bulletins.

Dependant on the number of responses, these may need to be fast paced. If you feel you would prefer a longer discussion then we would suggest you contact a duty early help coordinator via earlyhelpadvice@childrenfirstnorthamptonshire.co.uk.

Please follow the links below to secure your appointment.

4. GovernorHub Renewals

FAO:  All Schools
From: Governor Services

We recently sent an email asking if schools wished to continue with their subscription to GovernorHub or wished to just subscribe to the newsletter instead for the year 2019-20.

Renewals start in April each year and cost £150 for GovernorHub (which includes the newsletter) or you can subscribe to the Governor Support Newsletter alone at a cost of £50 per year.

If you have not already done so, please send an email to governors@childrenfirstnorthamptonshire.co.uk to indicate if you wish to renew your subscription to GovernorHub or just want to subscribe to the Governor Support Newsletter  as invoices will be issued shortly.  Those schools who have not expressed a wish to renew will lose their access to the GovernorHub platform.

If you are not already a subscriber and wish to or to find out more information about the benefits GovernorHub brings to a governing board, please do not hesitate to ask.

Intent, Implementation and Impact
Schools becoming Research-Rich Communities

  • Quality learning, teaching and assessment

  • School leadership and management

The programme is over eight afternoon sessions and will upskill teachers and school leaders as practitioner researchers who systematically explore aspects of classroom practice and whole school provision, with the ultimate goal of improvement.

There will be hands-on workshops for delegates to learn about every stage of the educational research process, to include project design, data collection methods, analysis, and developing recommendations based on evidence to inform school improvement.
