1. Northamptonshire Collaborative Reading Project (NCRP) – Open Day events

FAO: Headteacher/Principals, Literacy Subject Leaders/KS2 teachers
From: Learning, Skills & Education

We are holding 2 open day events as part of the NCRP Reading Project this term as detailed below:

Developing the learning environment and sharing good practice in the teaching of reading – open days with guided tours of lead/project schools

Date/time          27 February 2019 – 9am-12pm
                          26 March 2019 - 9am-12pm
Audience          Headteachers/Subject leaders/KS2 teachers
Cost per person   £75

The purpose of these events is to celebrate the work schools have been doing as part of the NCRP project so far and share good practice in the teaching of reading, particularly in KS2. Each school has designed and shaped their own approach to the teaching of reading, using elements of the NCRP project and adapting this to suit the needs of their pupils. Further information about the schools opening, including their context and approach to the teaching of reading, can be found on the links below.  Headteachers and subjects leaders who are driving improvements in reading are invited to attend, as well as KS2 teachers who would benefit from this. We would recommend that, wherever possible, delegates undertake the visit alongside a colleague so that they are able to reflect on practice seen together and engage in professional discussions about their own practice and any potential areas for development.

Please note that there are a limited number of places on these sessions. Please click on the link to book your place.

Maths - Teacher Subject Specialism Training (TSST)

Maths - Maths - Teacher Subject Specialism Training (TSST)

Session 1

Are you interested in re-training to teach Maths?

This programme is a blended approach involving 7 face to face sessions and optional one to one tutorials, as well as work between sessions to consolidate subject knowledge. It is suitable for any teachers wishing to retrain to deliver Maths sessions within their setting.

The face to face sessions are one whole day session and 6 afternoon sessions and focus on the pedagogy of maths, as well as subject knowledge.

You will discuss misconceptions, common areas of weakness and ideas of how best to approach a subject. Each session will be delivered by 2 programme facilitators from the teaching school. Post session materials will be based on the topics covered during the sessions and will build in difficulty to accommodate different levels of prior knowledge. Additional work between sessions will aim to reinforce and assess the impact of sessions. Support will be available via email between sessions and there is the option of one-to-one tutorials at the end of the course.

In order to complete the course and gain certification delegates will be expected to:

  • Complete a pre-course and post-course subject knowledge audit
  • Complete all Post session materials
  • Complete a reflective journal after each session to reflect on personal subject knowledge, what you have gained from each session and any areas for further improvement.
  • Attend all sessions.

If participants are currently teaching in a school they should talk to the mathematics department to find a school-based mentor to support them throughout the course. If participants are not currently teaching in a school they should make the teaching school aware of this so we can put provision in place.

Event Date: Wednesday 20th March 2019 9.00am – 3.30pm

FREE  -  Learn a new language Online with Rosetta Stone

Last academic year we joined with Rosetta Stone to offer existing MFL teachers the opportunity to learn a new language. The scheme does not now have to be taken up solely by language teachers so could be thrown open to all teaching staff.   This is a FREE online course which makes the programme extremely flexible so is ideal for busy teachers!

We have small  number of  licences remaining and are keen for them not to go to waste.   We will allocate the the places on a first come first served basis (unfortunately those registered last year cannot sign up again).

There is absolutely no pressure or obligation for teachers signing up to commit to a specific number of hours and the licences last up to 31 October 2019 so they can do as little or as much as they wish in the time that they have.

The language choices are French, German and Spanish.
