Isolation and loneliness

Projections for 2031
indicate that Loddon Mallee will have 4 of the top 10 local gov areas with highest populations over 60 years: Loddon, Central Goldfields, Buloke and Mount Alexander.

Living alone is one risk factor though not indicative.

Research has identified that the considerable diversity of seniors’ life experiences and backgrounds impacts on the risk of isolation and loneliness.

Overall, one-to-one interventions were found to be inferior to group-based interventions in addressing isolation and loneliness, mainly due to their inability to widen social networks or encourage community participation

These are just 3 things to think about from the comprehensive 2016 Ageing is everyone's business report of the Commissioner for Senior Victorians prepared early in the aged care reform.

Upcoming sessions for Loddon Mallee CHSP service providers(register below) will look deeper into some of the causes and associated risk factors for social isolation and loneliness.
