Newmarket Eagles Cycling Club

For many, cooling temperatures and dropping leaves mark the end of the cycling season. For others, it marks the transition from outdoor riding to indoor training. A few weeks ago I put out a call and asked readers to tell me where they did their indoor training. I then contacted the trainers and asked them to provide information to pass on to you; their submissions in their own words are below in alphabetical order. Happy training.

We have amassed an extensive amount of knowledge over the past 10 years racing at a very high level. Over the same 10 years we have partnered up with some brilliant coaches and had the pleasure of working with some extremely talented athletes. Even today we are constantly pushing the limits of our sport, evolving and gaining inside knowledge then passing it along to our athletes.

The RealDeal training system is high performance training for the athlete with a full time job, spouse, kids and life off the bike. We have been there. We work with all levels/abilities and unique challenges. We are proud to say that our training system has produced numerous personal bests, victories, National and Provincial titles. The truth is we do much more than just provide training plans. We are very "hands on" working on skills and technique. There is also some life coaching added into the mix. There is much more to this sport than fitness and this is where we separate ourselves from the coaches who just don't get it.

We view cycling like any other high level sport. Whether it is putting pucks in the net or draining 3 point shots fitness can only take you so far. Let us open your eyes to the many different skill based drills and training techniques out there so you can truly reach your full potential. Specificity is the key. One quick phone call can change the way you attack this sport. Learn from the best and fast track your way to the top.

Yoga for Eagles: True your body for pain-free rides.

Cycling does wonderful things for our heart and lungs as well as building strong leg muscles, but it often wreaks havoc with our necks, shoulders, arms and lower backs. This yoga workshop will provide you the tools to identify and release tight areas, strengthen weak areas, and improve your flexibility and body awareness. Self-massage techniques using Yoga Tune-Up therapy balls will be included. You do not have to be “bendy” to benefit from this work.

As a long-time cyclist I have first-hand experience with neck and shoulder pain, numb fingers, hot foot, low back pain and IT band irritation. As a yoga teacher and retired therapist I’ve been working with clients for more than thirty years to restore function and reduce pain. You will leave this workshop with take home exercises that you can integrate into your stealthy off-season training so that you can start next season strong, supple, and pain-free.

When:  Saturday November 5th, 1-3pm
Where: Newmarket Public Library, Multi-purpose Room
Investment: 25.00 (includes cost of Yoga Tune Up balls which retail at 17.50). Payment is required in advance, PayPal is available. Check the special Eagles web-page by clicking here.

For more info and to register: Contact Elaine at, call 905-251-0323, or the Yoga For Eagles web-page.

It is with a heavy heart, I write this email to inform you that outdoor cycling season is coming to an end.
On a positive note; You don’t have to loose the fitness you gained during the summer. In fact you can make significant gains to your fitness,  strength and cardiovascular capacity. Improve your pedal mechanics., leg to leg power balance…etc.  Please join me at the Trek Store Aurora for off season training camps. See the attached flyer for more details.
As in previous years there is a trainer sign up sheet on line (or click on the link in the attachment). Also attached is a training waiver, please print, read and sign a copy of this before your first class. Should you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact me. I hope to see you at the camps.
Kind regards,
Karl Pasternak

Personal Coaching
A training plan focused on your needs and strengths will keep you focused and motivated and have you ready for your first rides and events in the spring.  Workouts are based on your FTP and are periodized so you are doing the right work at the right time, and at the same time are focusing on your goals and priorities.  Regular feedback and discussions with your coach will keep you on track and adjust the plan if needed.  If you are interested in track riding (Milton or London velodrome), Matthias also provides coaching and can integrate into your winter training.
Road Racing Training Camp
The Road Racing Training Camp is an intense 5 month winter training plan designed for road riders targeting competitive events like Gran Fondos, Club Races or sanctioned events.  It is called a training camp as it is hard - but it will bring you to the next level.  Workouts are periodized and take you through a full training cycle - base training to race ready.  All the sessions are targeted to road cycling and are self directed at home.  Included each week are 2 x 1-1.5h workouts and 1x 2-2.5h  workout.  Testing is built into the structure of the program so you can track progress.
Please contact Matthias at or call / text 519-865-2850 to get more information.
