Tonight 11 Eagles rode the final Bathurst Street Hill Climb of 2020. The meteorological conditions were challenging as a strong north and west wind was against us. The only respite from the wind was the hill. The temperature was 17C, and the skies were clouding over as the evening wore on. This resulted in slower times for everyone. Paul Belfry was the fastest climber, and did so in front of his family, who were cheering him on to greatness. They probably took 15" off his time. Andrew Szafranski was second quickest and Bill Ross placed third. The Hill Climbs are a great competition and next year more will be held on Tuesday evenings. They are good traing for the Pottageville and McCowan TT courses! The results are below. They are also posted on the Webscorer website under ID# 222337.
After the HC, plaques were presented to 2 most deserving winners. Mike Grimes received the 2020 Hill Climb Champion award for the quickest time set on the Hill this year. He did it on a fixed gear bicycle. Andrew Szafranski was the 2020 Champion in the 20 km TT Road Bike category. Congratulations to our Champions.
There is a gap in this e-mail which I can't resolve. Scroll down, way down!
Ed Veal's TT Course - The TNTT - is still time triable.
The TNTT 15 km. course which was used for over 20 years was forced to close when signals were installed at an intersection on the course. However the lights are not yet operational. Bill Ross has generously offered to time me one day next week, and you are invited. I turned early at the last TT held there and Bill wants to give me the opportunity to make amends for my short turn. I will be riding my Funny Bike. This is not an OCA sanctioned event, and it is open to any Eagle who wants another TT experience. It will be next week in the daytime to avoid rush hour traffic, and it will be posted it next week. Stay tuned. A map/description of the course is on the Real Deal website.
Hockley Valley Hill Climb - Saturday September 19th
During these times of the Covid Pandemic, the Eagles have another opportunity to regain their lost fitness by climbing 3 kilometers on the Hockley course. Andrew Szafranski will do the timing and place blue duct tape at the start / finish line. The start time will be 10:30. It will be a cool day, but what do you expect, this is Canada. You will probably need your face mask to keep warm, or better still a Genuine NECC Buff. The link to the course and parking is provided by Alex Neyshtadt. If you don't want to ride it, why not come out and cheer on the competitors. I will provide cow bells to the first four spectators to make this a memorable experience. .
Orangeville Fairgrounds is 5K out West of the 3rd Line and 5th sideroad intersection.
Another way to get to the bottom of the hill (or complete the triangular loop) is to go West from Orangeville Fairgrounds (assuming that is the parking for everyone) to the intersection with Hockley Road and turn right into that east direction. This is a very gentle no gradients 7k warm up before the TT.
Clothing For Sale
Help me clean out my basement and purchase vintage Eagles clothing. The prices are unbeatable and you will be supporting the club. This is your chance to buy a piece of history. The jerseys and bibs are the previous design. Also there are a few surplus Race Team arm warmers and knee warmers which will come in handy especially this Saturday. They are black to absorb the sun light with Eagle graphics in white. It's Pearl Izumi clothing at bargain basement prices. You won't see these bargains anywhere!
