Bathurst Street Hill Climb - Tuesday September 1st
The first Hill Climb of 2020 took place on the Bathurst Street holl south of the Graham Side Road. It was a sunny evening with a strong south wind trying to push the riders backwards. The hill provided some relief from the wind, but then gravity took over. That is what it felt like to me. The course is 2 kilometers in total length with 1 kilometer flat, then the hill awaits for you.
9 riders participated this evening. In first place was Mike Grimes riding a track bike with a fixed gear of 53/15. That is a big gear to turn climbing that hill, but Mike managed it well.Mike's time was 4:00.6. There were a couple of snafus this evening. First my Seiko stopwatch wouldn't start, so I had to use the cell phone timer. Then I inadvertently stopped the timer during the HC, then I restarted it 33 seconds later. Thanks to Honest Tony Peters and Ken MacDermid the discrepancy was found. A big thank you to Ron Rehal who came to watch the hill climb, took over the timing from Mike and ended up launching the riders at 1 minute intervals. Maybe next week Ron will be riding.
We will be back at the Bathurst Hill Climb next week. I plan to use helmet numbers. The start time is still 6:30.
Registration for the 20/40 km Time Trial will be open by 9:30 tonight.
