Mc Cowan Road Time Trial - Tuesday May 7th @ 7:00 PM

This evening the Newmarket Eagles Time Trial was held at McCowan Road. The weather was cool this evening with a cold north wind blowing the riders up the hill on the return leg. The skies were clear with a brilliant sunshine and a temperature of 10C.

There were 16 riders participating tonight, and the women were well represented with 6 riders taking part in the TT. In the TT bike category Zak Jackson was the quickest with a time of 22:02.8. He was followed by Peter Henry at 22:17.6. and Mike Grimes at 23:04.3.

In the women's division Frannie Jewitt was first with a time of 26:01.8 as well as first in the Road Bike category, followed by Kari Beck at 26:35.5 on a TT bike, and Karen Paterson was third with a 26:43.9 . These are excellent times and could be the beginning of a strong rivalry this season.

This week Scott Edgington took part in his first Newmarket Eagles TT. Scott is a strong time trialist and posted an excellent time of 23:24.1. Welcome to the Eagles TT series Scott!

There were a lot of volunteers out at the TT. A big thank you to Adam Edge, Dave Pierce, and John Blunsdon who worked on the turn, Lisa Zalewski and Tony Osborne spotting the incoming riders, and Sarah Grimes our timekeeper. Our spotters were able to accurately identify a group of 9 riders who arrived at the finish line in a big swarm. Well done spotters.

Andrew Edge took some pictures at the TT. Attached below is the Google Drive link to the photos. If the link doesn't open from this e-mail, copy the link onto your browser. The photos are fantastic when they are opened up and viewed as a slide show. Thank you Andrew!

Next week the TT will be at the Kennedy Road course at 7:00 PM.  By popular demand, I will try to get the voluntold list done this week, maybe....

This Evening's Group Ride

Upon my return home after the TT, I saw a group of cyclists riding west on Stonehaven Avenue. They were very impressive riding in a tight 2 abreast formation. Then I realized it was the Eagles Tuesday night riders completing their ride. The group riding practices are taking effect; the Tuesday night riders looked like a well disciplined group.

Regards,

Bob Spencer
