“One of the most important days of my life, was when I learned to ride a bicycle.” ~ Michael Palin
"May the road rise to meet you..." I was pondering this first line from an old Irish blessing as I rode up a hill this morning but did not come to a satisfactory conclusion.  A rising road is still not my first choice on a bicycle.

But even hills become a conquered challenge when you're with a group, and this Saturday's rides heading west towards Tottenham will give you a few to crush.  Rides start at 8:30 from Riverwalk Commons.  It's supposed to be hot, so make sure you have plenty of water.  The longer rides will have a stop to buy more water along the way.

The nice weather is supposed to hold throughout the week and there is lots going on: the Tuesday night ride to Musselman's Lake, a couple of GOOFS rides (Wed & Thurs), Thursday Hammer ride and some eGALS rides (including hill training on Thursday night).  Check out the links below for more information.  And kudos to the Hammer Ride participants from this week who did a blazing pace for the solstice five laps to take advantage of the long daylight hours.

Also, next Sunday (July 3) there will be a special ride to Port Perry.  There are two route options - one is 102 km and the other is 169 km.  Both rides start from Riverwalk Commons at 8:00 a.m.  There is a butter tart waiting for you in Port Perry.

Finally, good luck to everyone who is doing the Hairshirt (321 km ride from Mississauga to Niagara Falls and return) on Sunday.  There are a lot of Eagles participating - you make us proud.

And now, the second line of the blessing: "May the wind be always at your back."  This one makes more sense - hope it describes your rides this week!
