On Saturday the Collingwood Cycling Club, CCC, hosted the second Inter-Club race at the village of Eugenia. The Inter-Club series is a race series between Barrie CC, Collingwood CC, and Newmarket CC. It has been running since 1986.The race consisted of 2 laps of a 32 kilometre circuit. The roads were generally of a rolling hill type, and there were no stiff climbs. The meeting place was at The Emporium, a rustic country cafe.
The day was sunny, hot and humid with a temperature of 30C. There was a steady breeze with some wind gusts to buffet the riders. 25 riders participated in the race. Four Eagles took part: John Vandenelzden, Mike Emerson, Dan O'Hallorhan, and Dave Viney. Big John dropped out after the first lap, heat and hydration were a concern. The heat contributed to 6 riders dropping out after the first lap. Dave Viney and several other riders went off course as a direction arrow sign at a corner was blown around by the wind. The Collingwood club came out in strength and dominated the race. The Collingwood club generously provided a coupon towards the cost of the food at The Emporium in Eugenia. It was a great event and we socialized on the picnic benches outside the cafe. The next Inter-Club race will be in early September and be hosted by he Barrie Club. The results are posted on the website.
SANDFORD CLUB RACE REPORT- JULY 6, 2019
The second race in the Newmarket CC-Uxbridge CC road race series was held under ideal conditions at the Sandford race circuit. 15 riders took part in this race, and at the finish all the groups came together to produce an exciting finish. Brian Kelly was the winner getting up the final hill ahead of Dave Viney and Graeme Sherber. The groups came together and battled for position up the final climb before the finish line. Due to space constraints I can't post the results on this page . Please go to the website for a detailed record of the race, you will see how the handicapping brought the field together.
Sandford is a great course and we would like to see more riders to compete in Groups 1 and 2. Group 1 is for beginners. Tony Osborne has offered to escort riders who would like to experience being in a race riding at a 24 k/h pace. Please contact Tony at the group rides for more information. Group 2 is for the less fast riders who have racing experience.
