Dear CORE Champions,

As we kick-off a new, virtual school year on August 24th, we are not only excited for the challenge but confident that we are fully equipped to educate, empower, and enrich our Scholars online. Connectivity will remain our prime focus as we work to ensure that all of our Scholars have Chromebooks and Internet access, we provide consistent and impactful online programming, and we are in constant communication with our Scholars and their families. At
CORE, we can and we will continue to fight for equity and provide excellence for our Scholars, no matter what comes our way.
Our programming staff continues to tirelessly build upon and improve CORE's online programming in order to pivot our digital learning format to best fit the needs of our Scholars. Our Scholars will be required to participate in two-hour CORE sessions twice a week. One session will comprise of one-hour of character education followed by a second hour -long session geared towards academic support. The focus of the second hour will shift each week and consist of subjects such as, college access, community service, resume writing, tutoring and Career We Can. The second two-hour session day will be more project-based, and also feature a variety of rotating focus areas.
We recognize that one of the main concerns with distance learning is that students who are not independent learners are at-risk for falling behind. Our programming staff will be diligently assessing and working with all of our Scholars individually, and providing individualized academic support to those who are struggling in this new learning environment. As always, our CORE tutors will be readily available to virtually assist our scholars throughout the week to ensure that they have the tools they need to be successful this school year. We also know that it is incredibly important to continually check on the social and emotional well-being of our Scholars and their families. Our social workers will continue to not only check-in, but also serve - ready to assist our families with any needs or concerns that may arise during this time.
Do you want to do good by eating good? We are ecstatic to announce that our generous partner, Chef Natalie Young, will be hosting a curbside, pop-up fried chicken dinner fundraiser on August 14 to help purchase Chromebooks for our Scholars. If you have or haven't tasted Chef Natalie's delicious chicken, now is your chance to dig into a savory meal.  Pre-order your chicken dinner via the link above and stop by EAT on August 24 from 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm to pick it up. You can check out the full menu of offerings at the link above.
If you would like to skip the chicken, but still want to support a Scholar, you can make a direct contribution at, or purchase one of the Chromebook models listed here. By purchasing a chicken dinner or contributing directly to CORE, you will be doing your part to help diminish the digital divide and setting a Scholar up for success. Today through a generous donation from Anthony Spiegel and the Thomas Spiegel Family Foundation, you can make double the difference and double your donation. For the next 24 hours the Thomas Spiegel Family Foundation will match your donation in any amount so that your contribution can help us buy twice as many Chromebooks for Scholars to succeed in the new school year.
We want to give a huge shout out to all of the educators, administrators, support staff, nonprofits, donors and families who are vigorously working and collaborating to make this school year successful for our students across the valley. Nothing can stop us when we are in it together, and through your resilience, innovation and dedication, we know that students will thrive in this new world of education. We are simply #Vegasstronger and better together when we #DoGoodThings. Let's do this!
