Are you ready for some football?! We are at Pisani Recruiting!

The NFL kickoff a few weeks ago got us thinking about all that the players have to do to get ready... The preparation begins months in advance to be in shape, both physically and mentally. They need to be primed, prepared, and confident. Does this sound like you before a big work meeting or event?

We can learn from our favorite players about how they approach their big events. Here are tips you can use the next time you need to prep for a make-or-break event at work:

Evaluate your last performance – Performance specialists recommend setting aside time to think about how your last performance went. What went right? What could be improved? This way you can figure out what needs improved.

Develop a mission statement – Know what your ‘why’ is before your ‘what.’ Remind yourself of your personal mission statement before setting specific goals.

Develop coping strategies – If something goes wrong you don’t want to lose sight of what you need to do. Come up with a quick way to effectively deal with stressful situations. Try deep breaths or taking a short walk. Know what you need to do to regroup so you don’t want to waste your brainpower trying to decide.

Our featured Guru this month is Cornelia Steinert! Cornelia is a Licensed Customs Broker who specializes in helping companies manage their international duty obligations and Customs documentation through efficient and compliant foreign trade zone operations.

What were some of the biggest lessons that have impacted the way that you work?
I learned how to remain cool and manage difficult people, and situations. Always keep everyone as your friend because the community is very small.

What are your non-work habits that help you with your work-life balance?
Always get away from your desk at lunch, and leave no later than 6 pm. There will always be more to do.

You can read Cornelia's full interview and learn more about what makes a successful international trade career on our blog.
