“My observation is that whenever one person is found adequate to the discharge of a duty . . . it is worse executed by two persons, and scarcely done at all if three or more are employed therein.” –George Washington
We are meeting again!

Membership Meetings:

We had small, but successful Point Man of Newburgh membership meeting on December 7th. Several found their masks and joined us for a joint online (Zoom meeting) and in-person meeting. I believe we had 7 members join on Zoom. There was some pre-meeting chatter between the Zoom group and the members meeting in-person at the Epworth United Methodist Church.

The next membership meeting will be held on January 4th. We'll manage it in the same way and hope that the Zoom crowd and the masked in-person group grow. Once again we'll open the Zoom and Epworth connection beforehand to give Point Man members a chance to talk with each other. You will receive a meeting invitation (link) on January 2nd for our January 4th meeting. We will begin meeting online for an informal gathering at 1730 and then our membership meeting will start at 1830.

If you plan to meet in-person at the Epworth UMC, please plan to wear a mask and to sit in the sanctuary's pews where hymnals have been placed. This will establish a "social distance" between participants. If you have questions regarding Zoom, please check out our website:  . The website has been updated to show how your computer or cell phone should look as you log into Zoom! The process is easy. Go to our Home page and select Upcoming Events under the Events dropdown menu. The information for our online meetings begins there. Click on Event Details to see the Zoom meeting detail.

Please email us at with “Zoom Meeting” as the subject if you have questions and we'll work to help you get online.

Newsletter Changes:

Point Man of Newburgh has been busy, but forced to cancel many in-person meetings. There is a lot going on, but the amount of "news" to report each week has dropped off temporarily. I don't want to send you the same news week after week. I would stop opening the emails. Some of you have already.
Point Man of Newburgh took a big hit with COVID-19, but we're determined to get our activities going again. You'll want to follow the information and schedules related to these activities. Until conditions improve and we begin to have more news-worthy activities we are going to send the Newsletter out once per month rather than once per week. If we have a special note or important information between newsletters, we'll use email to notify you.
Point Man of Newburgh's Dr. Robin Sanabria presents a check to SWIRCA to use for Veterans' Support

After our Executive Director, Robin Sanabria, made initial contact with SWIRCA (Southwestern Indiana Regional Council on Aging), she brought a request to the Point Man board to look at providing aid to our area veterans through SWIRCA. Many of you already know that SWIRCA has been active in their work to connect veterans with long term support through other agencies such as the V.A. The board approved a small group to meet with SWIRCA to understand how Point Man might collaborate with SWIRCA on veteran support. Robin, Dan Oats, and Dave Lehrschall met with Erin Davis at SWIRCA and learned that sometimes there is a financial support gap for veterans waiting on these long-term support systems to kick in.

This Point Man of Newburgh small group confirmed that SWIRCA could provide additional veteran connections and information. The group also understood the need for the gap or short-term financial assistance that aligned with our Point Man support mission. An assistance and communications details proposal was worked through between the group and Ms. Davis. SWIRCA agreed to the proposal and the proposal was approved by the Point Man of Newburgh board during the December 2020 meeting.

This activity fit right into our developing strategy where Point Man will strive to become more effective by developing Community Partners. Nine area veterans received "Angel Tree" gifts from Point Man members for Christmas as a result SWIRCA information.

We plan to hear more from a guest SWIRCA presenter during our January 4th membership meeting.
Christmas Dinner and Mission Barbeque

Christmas dinner was different this year, but it happened. It was cold and dark, but the big Mission BBQ truck rolled into place to serve really good barbeque meals. Our Chaplain, Danny Barr, led the activity with a prayer. Mission Barbeque provided more than 70 meals which were distributed in the drive-thru event. The line of vehicles snaked about the Epworth UMC parking lot and passed by tables where the meals, Point Man masks, and dessert were distributed. We were masked and socially-distanced, but the food and fellowship were great. We got to see a lot of folks we would not have seen otherwise. Thanks to all, who participated, and to Epworth UMC for letting us use their facility!

Next Meetings:

January 4, 2021

This will be a combined online Zoom meeting and in-person event. We are planning to hear a guest speaker from SWIRCA talk about their activities.
The meeting invitations and Zoom meeting link will be sent separately in a January 2nd email. A "social hour" will begin at 1730 and the membership meeting at 1830. Additional Zoom information has been posted on our website
. Go to our Home page and select Upcoming Events under the Events dropdown menu. The information for our online meetings begins there. Click on Event Details to see the Zoom meeting detail.
If you are masked and comfortable with following our COVID-19 safety policy, you are invited to attend in-person at the Epworth United Methodist Church. Socially distanced seating in the sanctuary is arranged by using every other pew and using hymnals placed in the pews to indicate where individuals or couples should sit.

(If meeting in person)

Newburgh, IN 47630

The plan is to resume meeting at Crossroads.

Our Point Man Chaplain, Pastor Danny Barr, has opened the doors to his Newburgh Epworth UMC for our meetings after COVID-19 meeting arrangements and the Zoom technical setup were established months ago for the Kiwanis group. Using Epworth UMC worked to most quickly get Point Man meeting again.

"Vets helping Vets"

Veteran's Court Needs Volunteers!!

The Veterans Treatment Court NEEDS volunteer veteran mentors to assist our veteran brothers that are involved with complication in the Vanderburgh County Court system.

To successfully rehabilitate veterans in the court system using evidence based

treatment to positively change behavior to lead productive, law abiding civilian lives.

Veteran mentors provide a support relationship with Court selected veterans in order to provide  a trusted friend who has “been there”.  The mentors are an adjunct to the support system provided by Court Case managers, the VA Mental Health Department and other agencies.

Mentors are assigned to maintain contact weekly to help his/her assigned veteran mentee through the sometime difficult pressures of their rehabilitation.  Mentors are not expected to be a counselor, financial supporter, or chauffeur of mentees.  Mentors are expected to be available to mentees as a friend.

If you are interested in helping you brother veterans on the path too a better life, or simply wish more information
please contact:

Barry Duncan, Court Veteran Mentor Coordinator
Cell:  270-339-6656

Please know that a request for more information is not a  commitment to serve.
COVID-19 has limited the dates for veteran court access, but the contact and encouragement work is still on-going.
