We've received several ideas on how to encourage developers to interact with each other at conferences and other events. Help us refine these ideas and come up with some great ways to engage other developers.
Stickers / Buttons
Something to display on a shirt, badge, or laptop to help spread the word. We're looking for logo ideas and designs. Text ideas: "Talk To Me" or "I'm a Social Developer".
A mobile application has tons of possibilities. The upside to this is flexibility. Some suggested features are name and conversation tracking, photos, and badges for different types of conversations. The downside is that electronic devices create barriers to the people we're talking with.
Old-school note taking gets past the barrier problem. When we're writing notes, we're still engaged in the conversation. When we're on a mobile device, we could be engaging with someone else. Perceptions are important to keep conversations going. The downside is figuring out how use/search this content later.
Getting Started Cards
Laminated cards with a getting started guide. This would include steps to starting a conversation, ice-breaker questions, tips on handling awkward pauses, etc.
More ideas are welcome. We're looking for ways to help people get comfortable with an uncomfortable situation. if you have ideas (or ways to refine the existing ones), send them to firstname.lastname@example.org.
