WORKSHOPS
Join us for a fun and educational experience with renowned plein air artist, Lucia Gonnella. Born in Italy and now a long-time resident of San Francisco, Lucia brings her extensive teaching experience to our popular biweekly watercolor instruction series.
Whether you're a beginner, intermediate, or advanced artist, this series is perfect for you. Lucia will guide you through the basics and advanced techniques to help you improve your skills. With step-by-step demonstrations and a reference image provided, you'll leave the session with a beautiful painting.
This event has been running on Zoom since April 2020 and is open to the public. A suggested donation of $10-$25 is appreciated, but no one will be turned away for lack of funds. For those who make a minimum $10 donation, a recording of the Zoom session will be made available to you.
Don't miss this unique opportunity to learn from a talented artist!
Compass Clara House facility, which provides housing to recently unhoused families, has developed a relationship with HVAW, bringing kids and teachers to the garden for education, fresh air - and earthworms! Teacher Sudarma Kekulawela's master's degree program led her to develop this project, featuring gardening for the kids, and over the past couple of years Sudarma and teacher Fei Huang have introduced their students to the joy and wonder of gardening; some of them had never seen an earthworm before!
This week they planted strawberries in a bed we built just for them. Pictured below are the kids along with lead gardener and earthworm wrangler Stephen Santamaria.
HVAW has also enjoyed the participation of kids from the Boys and Girls Club of San Francisco. You can see the mini-murals they painted for us on some of the boards used for our garden beds.
