Try Again...

By Shirley

One of the great things I love about Paperbacks Unlimited is the infinite number of books to choose from.  There are the authors I love to read and spend a year waiting (not) patiently for the next one to be available.  Authors like Dee Henderson, Steven F. Havill, Lee Child, Michael Connelly, Dani Pettrey and many more.

There are authors I have tried in the past and haven’t enjoyed the book, so I moved on to other authors.  But just recently I picked up Janet Evanovich and Lee Goldberg’s  The Heist.  I have tried one to two of her other books and did not get into them. She is however enjoyed by many people.  So...something about this book The Heist caught my eye and the premise sounded good.  I read it and loved it! What a nice surprise.

The plot is about FBI Special Agent Kate O’Hare who has been chasing con man and thief, Nicolas Fox for years. She catches him by ramming his car with a bus and then the fun begins.  Nicolas Fox is then used by the FBI to catch bigger bad guys.  Kate is not happy to be Nicolas’s handler.  They end up running cons and put together a “team” of unusual helpers to capture the bad guys. Like Willie who loves to drive anything she can get her hands on. (With no license or training to drive the plane, train, tank or whatever).  Boyd is an actor who can’t keep a job (bad over-acting).  He is perfect for their con.  Then there is Jake, Kate’s dad, a retired CIA Operative who steps in to assist them and make sure everything ends well.   A favorite line from the story is from Jake - “You left a makeup artist, a playhouse builder, and an actor in charge of holding a prisoner?”

I enjoyed this one so much I am reading the whole Fox and O’Hare series.

Do you have an author that you tried once and didn’t like?  What if other books by that author would be enjoyed by you?

When times are changing rapidly, it is good to still have the luxury of a used bookstore close by.  To be able to hold a book in your hands and read the actual pages.  I also like that with real books we can share them with others and keep passing them on.

Books can be entertaining or informative. Fiction or non fiction, they add to the richness of our lives.  I am blessed to be able to enjoy books of all kinds.  I enjoy the hunt for the next “new” author and the treasures I will find between the covers of the books.
