New COVID-19 testing site at former Walgreens west side facility
Bringing health, healing, and hope to the West Side community during a crisis

CHICAGO — April 16, 2020  –  Walgreens is currently operating a drive-up COVID-19 testing site at one of its former stores in the North Austin neighborhood at 1606 N. Mobile Avenue (North Avenue and Mobile). The drive-up COVID-19 testing is through a self-administered nasal swab and is free to the patient.

“As we work together with our governor and our mayor, we the Black Caucus, are pleased to announce this partnership with Walgreens to provide more testing on the West Side of Chicago.  We look forward to additional testing sites in the hardest-hit communities very soon,” said Rep. Camille Y. Lilly (78th).
Following the Department of Health and Human Services guidelines, testing is being prioritized for individuals that have symptoms, or who meet the following criteria:

  • Healthcare workers with symptoms
  • First responders with symptoms
  • 65 or older with symptoms
  • People with pre-existing health condition with symptoms
The test results will be communicated to the patient within one to two days so that individuals can contact their provider for further instructions on how to care for themselves to recover. Walgreens will also be reporting test outcomes to HHS and the Department of Health and Human Services so that they can maintain adequate data for the State of Illinois.
Testing is conducted by an appointment-based system for high priority people. People wanting to get tested can take an online assessment and if they meet the criteria to receive a COVID-19 test, they will be able to select an appointment time.
In addition to the new testing site, Rep. Lilly, along with other Caucus members have partnered with the Citizens Utility Board (CUB), to host a webinar today, April 16, 2020, at 5:30 p.m. to discuss what consumers need to know about new utility policies during COVID-19. Participating agencies include: CUB, the Community, and Economic Development Association of Cook County, Inc. (CEDA), the Illinois Commerce Commission, and ComEd.

“We also want to provide our citizens the resources they need to navigate through this crisis,” Lilly said.
