Nowhere Special
Welcome New Subscribers!
The quote of the week this week comes from Blazing Saddles - a film many of us will remember.  If we don't remember the film. we will remember the actor who starred in it. Gene Wilder died this week from complications of Alzheimer's disease. As I looked for a quote, I smiled remembering the characters played by this great actor - Jim, Dr. Frankenstein, and my favorite, Willy Wonka.
I don't know that I agree with the quote, though; not because I wouldn't want to go there, but because I believe everywhere is special in some way.  I've written about places here in Indiana, not far from my home.  They may not seem special to everyone, but our family has enjoyed them.
I've been told that I should not focus on Europe, but travel more in the states...or travel to Africa... or travel anywhere else that I haven't been.  Europe may be "nowhere special" to them, but there is so much of Europe I have yet to explore.  And I don't intend to stop traveling anytime soon - I'll explore those other parts of the world eventually.
Do you have somewhere special that you'd like to travel?  Do you travel to places that others may think are nowhere special?  Leave a comment on the website and I'll try to share it here.
Enjoy reading the posts this week. Feel free to share the newsletter with your family and friends! If you are reading your friend's newsletter, you can sign up for your own here.
Quote of the Week - 26 August 2016

"Nowhere special. I always wanted to go there."

This Week's Post:

Versailles, Home of the Sun King

The Chateau de Versailles, or Palace of Versailles, is located about 25 minutes by train or car from Paris and works great as a day trip from the capital city of France.  Many people place it near the top of their list of what to see when they are in Paris. Is a visit to Versailles worth it?  It definitely is, but it is good to do some planning ahead.

The Chateau itself has over 700 rooms although you only visit a fraction of them on a self-guided tour.  The gardens cover nearly 2000 acres.  Plan to spend a full day – and expect you will probably be tired at the end of the day.  Bring your camera ...

Staying Connected While Traveling Abroad

It’s only natural to want to stay connected with someone while you are in Europe.  Your spouse, a parent or child, your best friend – someone will want to be assured that you are okay.  You may also want to make local calls or use data services while you are traveling.

Unfortunately, calling home and making local calls can be ridiculously expensive if you don’t have a plan.  You may use your provider’s calling plan or have an alternative plan.  Here are some options:

Staying in Touch.  Staying in touch with friends or relatives at home is probably the most important...
