Welcome New Subscribers!
As we near the end of the tour - yes, already - I'm starting to reflect on how everything has worked out and what I've learned.  There is way too much for me to relate in this space, but I thought I'd mention one thing.
Seeing Paris with people who have never been here gives me new eyes.  While Paris has become familiar to me, it is brand new to the guests on the tour. I've learned so much from them - from their questions, their comments, and the things they notice that I've forgotten about. Their enthusiasm is inspiring.
One comment I've heard often is: "Travel will change your life." I've known that this is true since my first trip abroad, but how do I relate this to someone else?  Until you've traveled out of the country, you may have a hard time understanding what this means. I hope someday you will have the chance to experience this life-change yourself.
Traveling abroad not only gives you the opportunity to see new places, but it gives you a new perspective on familiar places - places you've visited and even your own home. As the quote of the week says, exploration will help us to see, for the first time, the place where we started.

The Best of European Markets

I’ve written about some of the European markets in the past, but there are so many great ones, I decided to do a whole post just about them.  There are markets for vegetables – similar to the farmers markets we are familiar with here – but markets in Europe sell much more than produce.  Here are my favorites:

Amsterdam

In Amsterdam there are over 20 markets – some open daily, others a few days a week. Three major outdoor markets that I find the most interesting are the Bloemenmarkt, the Albert Cuypmarkt and Waterlooplein.

The Bloemenmarkt...

Should I Buy a Eurail Pass?

I’ve been asked about buying train tickets  – Eurail Passes in particular – and I promised to talk about it here.  I’ll explain the pass and other options available.  Then I’ll follow up in the next few weeks with more details and recommendations.

The Eurail Pass  is an open-ended ticket that lets Americans travel in their choice of countries during a set time period.  The fee for all travel is paid at the time of purchase.  For example, you can buy a three country pass, such as Germany, France and Switzerland,  as long as the countries share a border.  Belgium, Luxembourg, and the Netherlands...
