Welcome New Subscribers!
As I write this, my mind keeps thinking about the preparations I am making for the upcoming holiday. Christmas will be here before I know it, and I have so much left to do.
I have barely started my shopping - yes, I'm usually a last minute shopper.  I am planning to go this afternoon, but in addition to presents, I have groceries to buy - specifically, cookie ingredients - so I can start baking soon.  I'm still working on decorating my trees - I need to get more lights.
I find preparing for a trip much the same.  I have my list of things to pack and do before I leave.  Although I often begin packing several weeks ahead of time, I still end up doing stuff at the last minute.
It's encouraging, though, that preparing and packing for each trip seems to get easier. One reason is that I pack lighter each time. As a bonus, packing light always makes my trip easier.
It's too bad I can't seem to pare down my Christmas decorations and activities. Each year we seem to add more activities.  I add new decorations without getting rid of old ones. But, I love them all. The activities add so many memories and the decorations bring the memories to light.
Enjoy your own preparations for the holiday, but most of all, enjoy the time spent with your family and friends.

This Week's Post:

Christmas in Chicago

Chicago is about an hour and a half drive from where I live, and I like to go downtown with my family during the Christmas season. Sometimes we go before Christmas; other times we go just after Christmas. Here are some of the highlights that we have enjoyed and look forward to again this year:

Macy’s Windows

When we go downtown Chicago at Christmas time, Macy’s Department Store is usually our first stop. There is a Starbucks in one corner of the store – coffee or hot chocolate is our first fuel for the day. We make a quick walk through the store, admiring the decorations and often, the designer bags or other luxuries...

Chicago Holiday Memories

Memories are important.  They keep us connected to the ones we love.  They bring generations together.  It is important to build memories and then reminisce to keep them alive.

Today was a day for memories.  Two years ago, I gave my mom a Christmas gift – or a promise for one.  I wanted to take her to the Walnut Room, the restaurant in Macy’s department store on State Street in Chicago...
