Private Lives 3 launched

Last Friday, we were extremely pleased and excited to be part of the launch of report of the new Private Lives survey. With over 6000 participants, this is the largest ever national survey of LGBTIQ people regarding their health and wellbeing. The report is available here. And you can listen to a recording of the event here.

These results are astounding in many ways. They show that many LGBTIQ are in happy relationships, feel supported and respected, and enjoy participating in the LGBTIQ community. However, they also show shocking levels of continuing harassment, discrimination and violence, along with significant mental health concerns and distress. The findings point clearly towards needing more LGBTIQ-inclusive services, and a mix of services that meet community needs.

To celebrate the launch and to address this issue, Rainbow Health Victoria is releasing an edition in our new series, Research Matters: Why do we need LGBTIQ-inclusive services? We hope you find this resource useful, and we look forward to working with you all to improve the lives of LGBTIQ people in Australia.

We know if we work together we can change things for the better. This research will help us do so.

As we all know, education is power, action can be taken on many levels to support the First Nations people of this country daily.” Writes Courtney Hagen, creator of the podcast Coming Out, Blak. Courtney partnered with our youth sector-specific program Rainbow Network to create a NAIDOC week resource including stories and links to resources and services relevant to sistergirls, brotherboys and any LGBTQIA+ First Nations people across Australia.
