Val's Newsletter

Another busy month for the Val's team with events, training and more. As we all begin to wind down to the end of the year that none of us will forget in a hurry, we feel we a little optimistic and have embarked on planning for 2021, with a mix of online and face-to-face activities and events. Victoria now has no active Covid cases - what an achievement and relief!
So keep an eye out in December as we share the first wave of planned events and more. But for now some recent releases and information to assist you with continuing to provide LGBTI safe and inclusive care and support to older people.
Stay safe & well

Val's Virtual Forum Series

Val's recently hosted a range of online events and training for services caring for or supporting older people. We received some great feedback regarding these sessions and requests for more topics, so we are currently planning a similar series for 2021. If there is a topic around LGBTI ageing and aged care you would like us to consider for 2021, send us an email here

Supporting LGBTI elders

Digital Dance Club

This week All the Queens Men host the final LGBTI Elders Digital Dance Club for 2020. Digital Dance Club is an ongoing social project that combats ageism, social isolation, and discrimination by creating safe, social and recreational spaces for older LGBTQI+ people. It's a fun, FREE online event and everyone is welcome. Please share the information about the program with elders accessing your service or join in to find out more. It's also Auslan supported.

Social connections for LGBTI elders

This month we are highlighting the range of LGBTI community visitors programs in Victoria which in 2020 more than ever has been a lifeline for many LGBTI elders to maintain social connection with community. With the end of year looming, and the festive season upon us, it is a time that can be particularly lonely and isolating for many older people, so we encourage service providers to promote these LGBTI visitors services through your service news, networks and communities:
