Val's Newsletter

Greetings from Melbourne and the first day of what we hope will be a short, sharp and effective lock down. This is definitely a timely reminder that Covid certainly hasn't gone away. Please stay safe, and keep up the wonderful work you do supporting or caring for older people - and please remember the needs of older LGBTI people and the provision of safe and inclusive care as part of this amazing work. We will all get there - so look after yourselves! If you or any older LGBTI people need information, support or specialist referral, please contact Rainbow Door for advice and assistance.

In this newsletter we highlight National Reconciliation Week 2021 with more information below including Black Rainbow. Also included as always is a range of information, resources, and links for both services and staff, and to share with your networks, clients, residents and stakeholders, so please read on.

Take care and stay safe,

Older LGBTI & Housing

Radio Interview

Many of you will know Andrew, Val's lead trainer, older LGBTI persons advocate and activist, educator and more. He was recently interviewed on 3CR's Raise the Roof, a show that explores a range of housing issues impacting older people presented by Housing for the Aged Action Group (HAAG). Listen to Andrew's informative, educational, and entertaining interview here

Report

Late last year Housing for the Aged Action Group (HAAG) released the report Out of the Closet, Out of Options. Fiona and Andrew discuss aspects of this report in the radio interview profiled here and in particular the importance of safe and secure housing for older people, and the risks of homelessness for older people including older LGBTI people.
