Hi all,

The last few weeks have been fit to bursting with events, including our Service in the Spotlight events with the LGBTIQ+ Liaison Officer Program at Victoria Police, and the Family Violence Restorative Justice (FVRJ) Service team. We have included recordings to these events below.

Our final QFVSN event for the year will be the Queer Family Violence Sector Network Mixer - a social networking event for networkers at the end of a hard year! Join us virtually or in person on Thursday, 2 December.

Finally, we have included links to some events coming up to mark Transgender Day of Remembrance, some wonderful Intersex resources to make use of, and some free training opportunities with Minus 18 and LivingWorks Australia.

QFVSN Service in the Spotlight

The Queer Family Violence Sector Network hosts a series called "Service in the Spotlight", which showcases services and programs that are relevant to the LGBTQ+ family violence sector, in an effort to build better referral pathways within the sector.
[RECORDING] Service in the Spotlight: LGBTIQ+ Liaison Officer Program, Victoria Police

This latest short webinar on 4 November featured Jeremy from the LGBTIQ+ Liaison Officer Program at Victoria Police.

Victoria Police have appointed a number of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex and queer liaison officers (LGBTIQ+ Liaison Officers) across the state. The LGBTIQ+ Liaison Officers (LLO) Mission Statement is to contribute to the creation of mutual trust between police, lesbians, gay men, bisexuals, transgender and intersex persons so they have increasing confidence in police through the provision of fair and equitable policing service.

[RECORDING] Service in the Spotlight: Family Violence Restorative Justice Team

The Family Violence Restorative Justice (FVRJ) Service team, from the Victorian Government Department of Justice and Community Safety, presented on 14 October.

The FVRJ Service facilitates restorative conversations for victim survivors of family violence. Their staff support victim survivors to talk about the harms they have experienced in order to heal and move forward from their experience of family violence. They are committed to helping people of all gender identities, ethnicities, sexual orientations, religions and abilities. This includes transgender and gender diverse people of all presentations, as well as cisgender men and women.

[RECORDING]

Rainbow Health Victoria:
"What is the Evidence Base in LGBTQ+ Family Violence Interventions and Prevention?”

This 2 hour briefing by Rainbow Health Victoria’s family violence team was recorded at the 2021 LGBTQ Family Violence Forum in August, 2021. It was an opportunity to unpack and ask questions about the most up-to-date research findings, important learnings from the evaluation of impact of previous strategies, and key focus areas of ongoing LGBTIQ Family Violence research, prevention and sector capacity building.

The briefing provided participants with an opportunity to best understand the current evidence base, work to date, and range of supports available from Rainbow Health Victoria to work collaboratively towards Australia becoming a place where people of all genders and sexualities can live free from violence.
