Navigating the Reforms
As part of our CHSP Sector Support and Development role, Val's supports services providers to understand and meet the needs of older LGBTIQA+ people and navigate the reforms as we transition to the Support at Home model. We continue to focus on assisting services to provide the best care and support in accordance with current and reform requirements, as well as ensure older LGBTIQA+ people can navigate and access the care they require with confidence and support. Watch this space as we share new initiatives, resources and training/workshop opportunities for providers and  LGBTIQA+ elders.

As reported in the previous newsletter - two CHSP reforms to be aware of regarding diversity and LGBTIQA+ are the updated identities terminology/acronym - to LGBTIQA+ and also Verification Specialisation - details are included again:

Manual Update - LGBTIQA+

CHSP Program Manual (22/23):
Chapter 1 -  1.2.11 - Older persons with diverse needs has been updated from LGBTI to LGBTIQA+ :
The Older people with diverse needs section includes people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, queer or asexual (LGBTIQA+). Manual update here

Specialisation Verification

Aged care providers who deliver specific services that meet diverse needs may apply for specialisation verification. Applications can be made using the My Aged Care Provider Specialisation Verification Framework and its assessment criteria
More information about the criteria and process is available here

Val's is funded to support CHSP services to understand and meet the needs of older LGBTIQA+ people including existing and reform requirements. Each month we have free, open CHSP training sessions and workshops where CHSP funded services can enroll staff to build knowledge, awareness and capacity to provide LGBTIQA+ inclusive care in accorance with sector requirements.
For further information, including dates and topics email Val's here or contact your regional diversity advisors/sector support and development team.
