Val's News

Congratulations everyone - we made it, particularly world record holding Melbourne - lock down central. It's crazy too how time and life has just zoomed past during 2021 - excuse the pun! We are still busy with training, networks, events, planning and resource development, and most of all looking forward to (hopefully) some in real life, COVID safe events in 2022. It really is so hard to believe it's November - please enjoy our brief news this month as things begin to wind down for the year and we bid farewell to the busy October Victorian Seniors month we just had. Still we have some great events, movies and more to share - so read on....
Stay Safe,
The Val's Team

Elders in Conversation

Val's recently hosted another session of LGBTI Elders in Conversation, with great attendance and lively conversation. There were lots of ideas shared and requests for more session - so we want to hear from you, and what you might want as themes or any ideas you have for sessions for 2022. We have developed a brief 2-minute survey - so let us know, our elders are keen to chat with you all some more. Survey here
A big thanks to everyone who attended the October event - and most of all to our elders for sharing their perspectives and stories.

Taking Charge Session

Justice Connect is conducting an online workshop - Taking Charge – Planning for a Safe and Independent Older Age on Thursday 11 November  from 2 - 4pm. The session will address future planning, issues regarding LGBTI people,  elder abuse, and how future planning might help older LGBTI maintain independence and prevent elder abuse.
The session is ideal for older LGBTI people however may also be relevant to providers and others working with older people. More information about the session and registrations available here

Coming Back Out Ball Movie - Now on Netflix

If you haven't seen it, don't miss this chance to see the Coming Back Out Ball Movie - now screening on Netflix. Many of you who came to our final conference back in 2019 will remember the screening of this wonderful film, or those of you lucky enough to see it at MIFF or its limited cinema run. Make sure you take this opportunity to watch the film - and please share it with older people as well. Care providers please show the film in your programs - create conversation that will build understanding and inclusion with and by all older people and staff. Watch the official trailer here or the Netflix link here
