Some time ago, I wrote "4 Reasons Why I believe in Jesus" . We may all have different reasons for coming to Jesus and a different "why" for following him. However, as Christians, what we believe about Jesus should fundamentally be the same.
After having the conversation with my friend, I was disturbed. She had not spent much time reading her Bible. Consequently, she didn't realize what I’m about to tell you.
Here's what we believe...
There is only one God. God is omnipotent (all powerful), omniscient (all knowing) and omnipresent (all present). If you believe other gods exist then you aren't really a Christian.
The Bible is true. It is the inspired word of God. Yes, the Bible was written by humans. What book have you read that wasn't? While you may have questions about the Bible, if you don't believe it to be God's word then you aren't really a Christian.
Jesus is the son of God. He was a real person on earth. He died for our sins and God resurrected him from the dead. #BecauseJesus we have been forgiven of all for our sins. This is the best part. If you don't believe this then you aren't really a Christian.
Jesus is the only way to God. In John 14:6 Jesus says, 'I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me." If you think that there are other routes to heaven or getting to know God, then you aren't really a Christian.
Now that you know what we believe, let me tell you about my why. You can read more on Shine TYC but here's the quick answer:
1. The integrity of the gospels. When a bunch of people can agree on a bunch of details, even if they interpret them differently, it's usually true.
2. The reality of Jesus. Jesus was a real person documented in history by non-Christians.
3. The reality of the resurrection. Where's the body?
4. The reality of my life. If you've read TOYI ELIZABETH you'll see that my faith has been integral to my survival and instrumental to the way I live. Christianity works! I'm a witness.
Christians believe that the only way to God is through Jesus Christ.
Do you believe this?
