IMPRESSIONIST ART EXHIBITION 2019

ENTRY DEADLINE
JULY 3 - JULY 7

Artists are asked to explore the Impressionist style and create an original work/s of their own incorporating as many key ideas of the movement as possible.

Impressionism can be considered the first distinctly modern movement in painting. Developing in Paris in the 1860s, its influence spread throughout Europe and eventually the United States. Its originators were artists who rejected the official, government-sanctioned exhibitions, or salons, and were consequently shunned by powerful academic art institutions. In turning away from the fine finish and detail to which most artists of their day aspired, the Impressionists aimed to capture the momentary, sensory effect of a scene - the impression objects made on the eye in a fleeting instant.

CUBIST ART
EXHIBITION 2019

JULY 3 - JULY 7
ENTRY DEADLINE

Artists are asked to explore the Cubist Art Style and create an original work/s of their own incorporating as many key ideas of the movement as possible.

"Cubism" was a highly influential visual arts style of the 20th century that was created principally by the painters Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque in Paris between 1907 and 1914. The Cubist style emphasized the flat, two-dimensional surface of the picture plane, rejecting the traditional techniques of perspective, foreshortening, modeling, and chiaroscuro and refuting time-honoured theories of art as the imitation of nature. Cubist painters were not bound to copying form, texture, colour, and space; instead, they presented a new reality in paintings that depicted radically fragmented objects, whose several sides were seen simultaneously.
