Getting food that would have been wasted to the people who need it
There have been such a lot of examples of people coming together to help people in need. We have heard about Marcus Rashford nationally and there's so much happening in Newham.

This month we are featuring Newham Food Alliance that is saving food waste and getting it to people that need it. If you need food or you want to volunteer or you know where food is wasted, this is a very good starting point:  Click here
Supporting local cafes - try Take Aways from Cornerstone cafe
We do hope our independent cafes, restaurants, businesses and all our High Street shops can survive another Lockdown.  Local shops keep the money local.  We thought you'd like to know that Cornerstone Cafe is open for take-aways on its usual days of Wednesday to Saturday. Soups...sandwiches... savouries... and of course nice cakes.  To keep up dated, check their Facebook page
Two projects funded by PSBL feature in this month's Newham Voices mag!
During lockdown #1, PSBL opened a Community Resilience Funding scheme. As a result nine grants were made available from £200 - £2500. A wide variety of initiatives were supported, however, some of the projects have had to be put on hold due to Covid-19 restrictions and keeping our community safe.

We will be reporting on these projects as they happen, you can read about two of the successful applicants - Raffaella of Funky Faces & The Green Gym Orchard in this month's Newham Voices
West Ham has launched Advantage to support 14-21 years olds and their mental health
Advantage is a new programme aimed at 14-21 year olds not previously known to specialist mental health services (CAMHS or Adult). It’s partnership between West Ham United Foundation and the NHS (ELFT).
Advantage combines individual mentoring with mental health support and is designed to help young people in transitional periods who have been set back by the pandemic and lockdown.
If you have noticed young people that may need some extra support with their mental health, there's. More info here.

Skills Enterprise -  helping our residents to keep connected digitally
We would like to give a big Shout Out to Mala and the team from Skills Enterprise for helping us get two of our steering Group members access to tablets & data. The Plaistow residents are so very thankful for keeping them connected at this must troubling of times.
Skills Enterprise is an innovative community organisation working out of Bonny Downs Baptist church in East Ham.
At the heart of their business model is the phrase "assume its possible" and we think this totally encapulates the fantastic mindset of the staff and volunteers.
Egham Rd Resident Planter Tidy-up and planting
On 26th October staff at PSBL were out in force at Egham Rd, Plaistow, to help residents cut back overgrown bushes and plant new stock of winter flowers.

Over 15 residents came out to enjoy the mild autumn air, and revive the planter, led by their neighbour Jo, who sourced out some beautiful plants at local florist Sewell’s.

We love the snap of the roasted veg cooked that evening by Emma using the Rosemary from the planter!
Newham funding available for community groups supporting people affected by Covid-19

Newham Council recognises that the COVID-19 pandemic will continue to have additional pressures on the voluntary, community and faith sector to support the most vulnerable in our communities.

Grants will be available up to £4,000 for each organisation. These grants will be available for both registered and constituted groups and other voluntary and faith organisations including those being formed in direct response to the pandemic. The funding opens on 16th November.  More info here
