Hello residents of Plaistow & beyond. How wonderful it's been to see the sun this month – it’s beginning to feel a lot like Spring! Like everyone else, we are looking forward to the clocks going forward on 25th March and the longer days. With the gradual lifting of Lockdown restrictions we hope that someday soon we can enjoy being together again!
We wish a very Happy Easter to those that celebrate it. We also hope that school children, parents and teachers can enjoy the Easter holiday break, such a short time after the Schools have reopened!
Introducing our new Director, who lives round the corner!
My name is Sheba I have been appointed as the new Community Manager/ Director at PSBL. I am delighted to join the team here at Plaistow South. I am a local resident, thus the work PSBL do is so close to my heart. I have extensive experience in working within the community whether it be at grass root level to leading on various projects.
I really look forward to working with the team at PSBL and the Community to help shape the work and to make Plaistow South an even better place to live and work in future.
Plaistow community WIFI pilot
We are excited to announce that we are going to try something out to tackle the problem of so many people not being able to afford WIFI. No connectivity means exclusion. We are going to pilot a roving WIFI router to create community WIFi hot spots. We plan to start by focussing on those people who are queuing for free food and resources, such as at Food Banks. If you are interested to help, get in touch.
Further update next month!
A word from Cllr Joy Laguda MBE – please take the vaccine
I would encourage everybody to take the vaccine. It's important that we don’t read the negative and false messages on WhatsApp and other social media platforms.
We all have to listen to the professionals, who are working so hard to reduce the effects of this virus which affects everyone.
Take the vaccine and reduce this pandemic, so we can all go back to our normal lives. We have lost many lives, and we want to stop these deaths that have affected a lot of our family and friends

Plum, Pear, Hazelnut and Sweet Chestnut trees in the Greenway Orchard
The Green Gym volunteers continue to be resourceful in their efforts to improve growing spaces in The Orchard on the Greenway. They have been repurposing old pallets by creating new plant boxes, painted with weatherproof paint, made by Alan, husband of one of the volunteers. They are bottomless so that the plants can root into the ground.
‘They look good even if I do say so myself. We would like some more pallets to make more plant boxes.’ (Eleanor)
The team, working individually at the moment, planted raspberry canes this morning and last week planted the new Plum, Pear, Hazelnut and Sweet Chestnut trees, bought from the PSBL Community Resilience Fund.
Please email the Green Gym if you want to join the volunteer team once Lockdown ends – firstname.lastname@example.org
