The Mini-Messenger

While we have had no limit on numbers at Sunday Mass since late May, overall weekly participation has not really increased. Whether people return, and when, will of course affect how long Emmanuel's rebuilding process will be, when we might have enough lay volunteers to hold two full services rather than one stripped-down service, and so on. Since the work our three vestry groups are doing on rebuilding is our parish's major focus right now (see Marisa's article below for more), let me repeat a point from the July Messenger. I hear some of you say that you plan to wait to return to Emmanuel until “they” have brought things back to the way they were before March 2020. I can say with complete confidence that this is an impossible plan. There is no "They" in a Christian community; all there is, is Us -- the people who are actually here as the Body of Christ. Emmanuel's capacity for ministry and worship equals precisely whatever each of us is offering ourselves to God for at Emmanuel here and now.

This Week's Highlights
RELAUNCHING: THOUGHTS ON THE CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITITES OF 2021
What will the church look like now that we’re coming to the end of the pandemic? We've all been asking the question, and Marisa has gone on the hunt for some answers. Click here to read her summary of a continuing-ed event she attended that identified both challenges and opportunities facing the church in the year to come.

SUNDAY MASK POLICY
Emmanuel no longer requires all persons to wear masks at indoor events (with the exception of one event: our "safer" RSVP-only Mass on Wednesday at 12:15 for those who are not vaccinated or wish to be cautious.) By not wearing a mask, you are affirming that you are fully vaccinated and that your fellow parishioners can rely on that as a truthful statement. We also encourage anyone who prefers wearing a mask to continue doing so.

CHOIRMASTER AUDITIONS
We are now in the process of interviewing and auditioning for a new choirmaster at Emmanuel. Please offer up the search to God when you come to Mass, as well as praying at home that God will send us the right person in this unusual re-launching season.

Taking Faith Home

Parish Calendar

IN A PASTORAL EMERGENCY - If you or a family member are in the hospital or have another personal emergency, please let the clergy know; they are ready to visit or assist. If the office is closed, please leave the information (including which hospital) in one of their personal office voicemail boxes or on a home phone. Emmanuel can also arrange to have meals provided; just ask!

SCHEDULE INFORMATION -
Emmanuel's ministry staff seek health for both themselves and the parish culture by taking regular time off. MOTHER BETH is off on Fridays. MARISA CROFTS is off on Mondays. DEACON CHRIS is in the office Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday mornings. Voice mail may be left in their boxes at any time.

OFFICE HOURS -
The church office is open roughly 9-11 weekday mornings currently, as well as by appointment. At other times our staff will continue fulfilling all their ministry responsibilities from home, including actively responding to email and phone messages.
