Green Built Guide: May 2022

Don't Miss Early-Bird Ad Space Discounts and Content Deadlines Coming This Week

We are in the process of planning our 2022 Green Building Directory. With 25,000 copies distributed at 100 spots in Western North Carolina, this directory is a great way to share your company's offerings in the broader community and market your brand for high visibility in a targeted demographic.

We include listings for all members at the business level and higher, and there are several ways you can benefit from even more visibility in our latest issue publishing this summer.
  1. Contribute content. Each year, our directory is enriched with article features and case studies written by our members and about their projects. To be included, email story ideas to by May 31.
  2. Place an ad or enhance your listing. Review ad ratesthen email to reserve. Enjoy a discount before the early-bird deadline on May 27.
  3. Become a member. Whether you're joining for the first time or renewing after a lapse, there's no better time to become a member and benefit from all the related marketing exposure. For inclusion, memberships must be active by July 1.

As our industry continues to expand, the annual Green Building Directory offers a unique opportunity to position your company for future growth and increase market share. Confirm your presence in our directory and help our nonprofit advance regional awareness of green building, sustainability and your company's services.

Save the Date for Green Built Alliance's
Annual Party and CiderFest Fundraiser

After two years of limited opportunities to gather as a community, we look forward to reuniting at two of our annual events we plan to bring back this fall for the first time since 2019.

We're excited to be planning our annual member appreciation and networking party for Wednesday, Sept. 7 at French Broad Outfitters' Hominy Creek outdoor location along the river.

As always, this after-work party is open to the public and will include free food, live music and a cash bar along to celebrate the past years' work of our nonprofit and the release of our 2022 Green Building Directory magazine. And, to make up for lost time, we're adding a mid-afternoon paddle down the river. Our partners at French Broad Outfitters are offering a generous discount on their normal rates for this trip and it will serve as a fundraiser for GBA.

Please also save the date for our annual CiderFest NC fundraiser, which will return on Saturday, Oct. 8 in a new location at our members' at Olivette Community and Farm's riverside venue.

Watch newsletters later this summer for details and to RSVP!

Duke Expands Residential New Construction Rebate Across Our Region

We’ve been waiting for this good news for years.

Recently, Duke Energy announced that they were expanding their generous rebate for new energy efficient homes into all North Carolina’s Duke Energy Carolinas service territories. Participating builders can earn up to $6,000 per home.

This is excellent news, as the Duke Energy Progress Residential New Construction HERO + HERS rebate, or “DEP RNC HERO rebate” as you might have heard it referred to, has been a great way to help builders in Duke Energy Progress’ service territory earn money for new homes with energy efficiency practices that make a difference for the end user’s energy costs AND reduce the demands of growth on our region’s power grid.

Previously, however, that program was only an option for those building under Duke Energy Progress service territory, which includes most of Asheville and Buncombe County, but excludes large swaths of many other counties in our region.

This expansion means that the program is now available for homes in much of Henderson, McDowell, Rutherford, Transylvania, and Polk Counties, as well as a good chunk of the entire NC Piedmont. Energy advocates have been pushing for this expansion for years, and we are pleased to see the announcement that it has finally arrived.

Climate-Conscious Banking Option Supports Our Nonprofit

As some of our members have expressed interest in divesting from banks that support fossil fuels and other polluting industries, Green Built Alliance has created a new partnership with Atmos Financial. With no fees, no minimum balance, and 100 percent of customer deposits invested in clean-energy solutions, Atmos donates $20 to our nonprofit for each new account.
