School Value for Term 3
Mana Whakahaere/Responsibility
Kia ora Whanau,

Following the Prime Minister's announcement of the move to Level 3 school will close at midday today, and remain closed until next week.  There will be no online teaching this week.  Teachers are now preparing in case Level 3 is extended next week and they will be contacting you in the next few days to re-establish online communication.

If you are an essential worker and need to send your child to school please contact the office as soon as possible so we can discuss what this will look like for your child.

On a more positive note... perfect weather last week heralded in the running of our annual senior school cross country competition. It was very satisfying seeing many of our students showing resilience in completing the grueling course and achieving their personal goals. Thank you to all the parents who managed to come along to support their children and to the teachers for organising the run.

Our Year 7s took part in the local book battle competition last week and acquitted themselves very well. The competition was tough and we were placed 4th in the comp. Well done to these students who did our school very proud.

Our 3 senior netball teams entered te NW competition last week and did exceptional well by being placed 1st and 2nd in their respective grades. Our boys team also did very well by beating Colwill in the final. Well done everyone.

The refurbishment of Rooms 5-8 is underway but will be on pause for the moment.  The swimming pool filtration plant has been replaced and minor repairs to the pool have been completed.  Other projects to be completed in the near future include; the replacement and resurfacing of the top court; the replacement of the carpeting in the administration and library block, the building of an office space attached to the Sunroom; the building of a storeroom attached to the back of the hall to store all the hall furniture etc; early next year we will see the extension and covering of the backcourt creating a multi-purpose sports area. We hope to have this area operational for our centenary celebrations in March. We will also see the construction of our new 8 learning spaces. it is a busy time ahead for our school and I thank everyone in advance for any inconvenience the build might be causing. Every effort will be made to have very little effect on our children's learning.

Please take a look at some of our recent updates on our school website. We have created a learning resources page which we will be keeping current and up to date. Our cyber safety page also has some good information regarding keeping your child/ children safe online. Parents can utilise the free licenses to get 'insights'' into their children's computer use.

Kind regards,

Gary Pasfield

Book Battle
Waimauku School recently entered two Year 7/8 teams in the Northwest Schools Book Battle held at Te Manawa.  This is an annual quiz designed to test students' knowledge of books.  Both teams performed very well, with the team of Brianna Hoy, Matai Harrison, Tiki Iti Atkinson and Natalie Osmond finishing just outside the top three in fourth place.  Congratulations to all who took part and for your outstanding knowledge of a wide range of books.
NW Netball Y7/8 Tournament

More info on lambs, the lamb pen and Ag Day can be found on our website https://www.waimauku.school.nz/agriculture-day-1

Register now on Kindo if you want to bring your lambs, goats, calves, dogs and cats to Ag Day.

Student Voice
Bubble Art
Our brand new collaborative art piece was installed in the library this week.  When we returned to school after lockdown all our students contributed a bubble as a response to their experiences during lockdown.  This art piece represents all the individual bubbles joining together once again as our school community.

A huge thanks to Mrs O'Connor from Room 22 who bought the pieces together with such stunning results.

Feel free to visit the Library and see it for yourself.
PTA
The PTA had a great meeting on Monday with lots of positive discussion and ideas. Ag Day planning is well underway, thank you to all those businesses who have already committed to supporting this event including Waimauku Automotive and Tree Adventures.

The group confirmed approval to purchase new games for the school’s  lunchtime clubs including boardgames, stacking cups and Lego and also agreed in principle to fund an upgrade to outdoor play equipment in the junior playground and to replace the broken seesaw in the top court playground. Costs / designs are yet to be finalised, however, our Ag Day fundraising will largely go towards these structures so watch this space!

Ag Day is looking busier than ever with Breakfast Baps on the menu as well as lots of fun activities and games for the kids (and parents) including a Lego Walk of PAIN!! The PTA is still happily accepting any toys, puzzles, kids activity packs etc which we can use as prizes on the day. In total we need over 2000 small prizes / prize packs for the kids to win, so anything you can donate is greatly appreciated.
