School Value for Term 2
Kia ora koutou,
We are waiting in anticipation of the announcement for the country to move into Alert Level 1 and for us to resume with our regular school programmes. Fun Friday last week saw the whole school getting involved in tabloid sports, arts, and paper plane making. With wacky hairstyles included, lots of fun was had by all. Over 80 of our senior school students also took part in the science Epro8 Challenge last week. We did not compete against any other schools because of the alert level however it did afford more of our students to take part in this event. Congratulations to Nathan Spice, Manny Wolfgramm, Orlando Fierro and Callum Lloyd for winning the challenge and bringing home the trophy.

Please note that we will not be reporting formally in writing this term but will be holding parent/student/teacher interviews instead.  This will be an ideal time to catch up with your child's teacher on their progress following the 7 weeks of lockdown. Bookings for these interviews are made online through the school's website.

Good progress is being made on planning for the refurbishment of Rooms 5-8. Classes and parents will be notified as soon as definite timelines are received from the contractors.

Thank you once again to all the parents who drop off and pick up their children at the end of the day. It has reduced traffic congestion in the morning with the quick drop-offs and has allowed for an orderly dismissal at the end of the day. Your cooperation in this regard is really appreciated as we hope to keep this trend going.

School Life
Scholastic Book Club
The latest Scholastic Book Club brochure is now available from the library and will be coming home with students this week.  The last day for ordering via school is Wednesday 17 June. We would encourage you to consider using the LOOP system of ordering online but still welcome paper orders in the library.
If you need a bit more time you are able to order online up until Friday 3 July but these books will be delivered direct to your home and will incur a small additional charge.
Do come in and take a look around our lovely library and browse our awesome collection of books which have been significantly funded by these Scholastic Book Club fundraising efforts over the years. Your support in purchasing from these brochures is very much appreciated by all the children in the school.

All students who play on the back field need to have a change of clothes in their bag.  Year 1 and 2 students need a change of clothes in their bags at all times please.

Name those clothes!
Please make sure all jackets, sweaters, shoes, drink bottles etc are named so we can return them to your child when they lose them.

If your child needs medicine at school you will need to fill in a permission form.  All medicines must be kept in the office, students cannot keep medicine and inhalers in their bags.
We have a newly elected student council. Congratulations to:
Lily Donne, Keira Sinton, Poppy Jones, Samuel Francis, Tiki Iti-Atkinson, Briana Hoy, Dylan Smith and Rosa Pritchard.
Friday Fun Day
Last Friday was a great success despite the rain.  There was wacky hair, paper aeroplane competitions, tabloid sports, juniors and seniors buddying up, a whole school jump jam and the creation of a collaborative art installation.  It was great to hear all the laughter and fun after the seriousness of recent times.
The EPro8 Competitions were held in-house this year but that didn't stop the fun!  EPro8 is an engineering and problem-solving race and a fantastic way for kids to experience practical maths.  Congratulations to our winning teams.
Big thanks to Dominos Pizza in Huapai for shouting a thank you lunch to all our staff.

The PTA met today for the first time since lockdown and it was lovely to see everyone again. Assuming (hopefully) we will be in Level 1 in the next week or two, we are penciling in a Hot Dog Day for Friday the 19th of June. Each Hot Dog is $3.50 (vegetarian options available) and will be delivered to the class. Orders can be placed via KINDO from next week. Note the date may change if required.
The PTA will also be selling Popcorn Packs via KINDO at the end of term and better yet there’ll be a prize for the class that buys the most!
Planning is also underway for Ag Day, and we are trying to re-schedule the School Disco – so watch this space!
Our next meeting is an evening one, on Monday 29th June at 7pm, all welcome.
Have you had a big clean out during lock down?

We will be in contact with you if your child requires an urgent appointment.

Alternatively, if your child is in pain, or you have immediate concerns about their teeth, please phone 0800TALK TEETH to speak with one of our therapists.

We are not able to offer routine appointments just yet, but we will let you know as soon as this changes.

This means that your child’s routine appointment may be delayed.

Thank you for your understanding and support during this time.

Creative Matters will not be running our after school art classes at Waimauku School this term but they have an amazing online option - a term long course for children aged 6 - 13 which teaches visual arts skills and encourages creative thinking.

It's very much structured in the same way as their popular after school classes, with instructional teaching videos presented by Mandy (CEO), and fun art projects that can be completed independently.

Creative Matters looks forward to being able to provide face-face lessons again in term 3. Click the link for more info, a free preview or to subscribe for only $97.
During school hours at Waimauku School; or at Muriwai Studio.  All ages and levels; for fun, for skills and/or for exams.  Qualified (DipMus, DipPerformArts, ExecCertMus, LTCL, AIRMTNZ).  Experienced and Registered Teacher.
