    School Value for Term 3
    Mana Whakahaere/Responsibility
Dear Parents and Caregivers,

Our Ag day was once again a big success with much thanks to the many people working very hard behind the scenes. Thank you to our efficient office staff for all the administration, our hard-working ground staff for preparing the grounds,  our teaching staff for judging exhibits and organizing the children, and last but not least, our fantastic PTA for all their efforts in organising the food and activities. Much planning and preparation was put into the day, making it a wonderful community event. Thank you to everyone who supported the school in one form or another.

A big thank you to Mrs Newland and Mrs Purchase for looking after the school during my absence at the end of the last term. It was a very busy time especially with the last week of production and the painting of the administration block.  It is much appreciated.

Our senior students, Y 5-8 competed in the Epro8 challenges last week and did extremely well with both the Year 5/6 and Year 7/8 teams progressing onto the Regional finals. Congratulations to the teams and to Mr. James for arranging the competition at school.

Our school hosted an evening with Nathan Wallis last week. He informed and entertained over 400 people in our hall on how to 'Engage your Brain'. A good evening was had and a huge thank you to our PTA for organising and hosting the evening.

On Friday our Kapa Haka students will be competing at the Kaipara festival being held at Kaipara College this year. We wish them all the very best with their performance.

Kind regards,

Gary Pasfield

Student Achievement
EPro8 Y5/6
Our school hosted the EPro8 Challenge for Y5/6 last week and our teams did really well with "Young Einsteins" taking out first place!

The EPro8 Challenge is an engineering and problem solving race. Teams compete to build large sized structures, solve practical problems, engineer using pulleys, motors, gears, wheels and axles, invent machines that can complete simple tasks, undertake unusual and fun experiments, construct basic electronic circuits and solve interesting problems using practical maths. Each team of four is based at a workstation containing an impressive assortment of easy to use parts and equipment. You can find further information about the event at http://epro8challenge.co.nz/
EPro8 7/8
We hosted the EPro8 Workshops and EPro8 Challenge for Y7/8 last week.  Our teams competed hard at the challenge and took out first, second and fourth place - congratulations to the winners "The A Team".
NZ Wrestling Champs
We are proud to announce the outstanding achievements at the NZ Wrestling Championships of Kate Robinson who took the Gold and Tre Caldwell who took the silver.  Congratulations!
Congratulations to Zoe Wratt who was nominated for and competed at the annual National Young Performers Awards (PACANZ) last week.

PTA Update
Firstly a massive THANK YOU from the PTA. Thank you to everyone who supported this year’s Ag Day. Thank you to all the teachers, kids and parents who baked cakes, donated grocery items, ran stalls, sold raffle tickets, bought raffle tickets, helped set up stalls, blew up balloons, painted faces, painted signs, carried things and counted things and at the end of the day packed everything up and put it away again. Without all of you, we could not run this amazing event. Congratulations to all of the raffle winners, ribbon winners and prize winners and of course thank you to the teachers who braved the Dunk Tank! Phew! What a fantastic day!

There was a huge turn out for the Engage Your Brain talk by Nathan Wallace, hosted by Waimauku School and supported by the PTA committee, where he talked about the development of the human brain through childhood. Nathan Wallace is a very entertaining speaker which made for a very interesting and enjoyable night.

Some of you may have noticed a new, rather nice storage shed has been constructed at the Junior Playground using funds raised by the PTA this year. The shed is to be used to store play equipment for the Junior School. Thank you to all who have supported the PTA events and fundraisers this year.

BINGO!!   Friday 1 November
Hot off the heels of AG Day the PTA are straight into our next event. Its BINGO but Not as Your Nana knows it!!   A night of fun and laughter brought to you by Mistress Viv and DJ Andy Juice.  (Note - some of the BINGO calls are likely to be a bit rude, so if you are easily offended this night may not be for you.)

The night kicks off at Muriwai Surf Club with BINGO from 7pm and then a DJ from 9.30. We’ll also have the rugby on upstairs from 10pm for those who want to watch the game on the big screen.

Jo Bro’s Burgers will be on site from 6pm so you can arrive early, claim your seat, grab a burger and get a drink from the bar before the games begin. It’s a great chance to mingle and meet other parents and Jo Bro’s menu looks awesome, with a vegetarian option as well.

We also have some amazing packages up for auction including a Local Luxury Escape, a Wellness Package, a Local Action Package, an Adventure Package, a Tree/Green Fingers Package, A DIY Clean Up package, a Travel Package, an Art Package and some NZ Sports Memorabilia including a Cricket Bat signed by a Black Cap. All auctions will be online and open to all parents during the week leading up to BINGO and then also available on the night for you to bid on. Thank you to all the businesses who have donated towards these auctions.

As responsible hosts we have arranged Lucie’s Bus for transport to and from the event, please book at the office before 31 October to secure your spot on the bus (school zone only) it’s $10 per trip or $15 return.

There’ll be prizes for best dressed (think Outrageous Fortune/Westie styles) plus a photobooth on site to capture the moment.

So grab your tickets -  $25 from KINDO or the School Office – numbers are limited so don’t miss out on an awesome night!

Flippa Ball
Well it’s been another amazing term for the Flippa Ball teams with all players showing huge development over the past few months. The Year 5 & 6 team has gone from the lower rankings right to the top rankings in their grade. Well done to you all! Great to see such determination and drive in the water.

The Year 3 & 4 team too have improved greatly and are working really well together. A couple of the team members have also been to extra water ball skills training run by the water polo league and this has increased our arsenal of tactics.

With the year 4s moving up to the year 5 & 6 team in December, now is a good time to start thinking about Flippa as a sport for your current Year 2 child as we will have a number of vacancies in the Year 3 & 4 team next year. They are welcome to come and watch pool training on Friday before school once the pool gets warmer.

The year 3 & 4 team need another player! If you are interested - it is great fun, please contact Anna 021-026-22818 or peteandanna@hotmail.com
