School Value for Term 2
Pono/Integrity
Kia ora,
It has been a long challenging term in many respects and I am sure both children and staff are looking forward to a well-earned break. For the most part, our children have shown great resilience and have adapted well to the small changes we have made since lockdown. Thank you to all our parents for following the guidelines around illness and for keeping your children at home if sick. Many of our programmes and activities have had to be altered this term and will continue to be affected as we move into term 3. All programmes associated with the hall will be put on hold for term 3 as this space will be converted into 4 classrooms as their class refurbishment takes place.

It is exciting to see that the planning for the Year 5/6 camp is well underway as is the planning for our annual Ag Day early in term 4. If you are able to volunteer one hour of your time towards helping on the Ag day, please let your child's class teacher know at the parent/teacher interviews this week. More details about the activities will be sent out in due course.

Sport for the senior school will resume next term and we look forward to seeing our students back out on the sports fields. We are hosting the Kaipara, Northwest and Auckland Cross Country champs this year which is great for our students who know the local track and conditions.

May I take this opportunity to thank my staff for a very big term and wish everyone a safe and relaxing mid-year break.

Kind regards,

Gary Pasfield

Please note the following changes to school dates:

Citizenship Assembly            - Thursday 10 December
Senior Graduation Social     - Friday 11 December
Last day of term 4                  -  Monday 14 December at 12pm
Baby chicks are available now on Kindo!  The last day for ordering is 24 July which is the Friday of the first week of next term.  Chicks cost $23 for two or $65 for a starter kit which is two chicks, a bag of feed, a feeder and a drinker.  We held a meeting yesterday for all students who are interested in raising animals or bringing pets to Ag Day so your child may have a notice in their bag.  More info about chicks and other Ag Day animals is on our website.
Yummy Apple Stickers

Once again Waimauku School is collecting Yummy Apple stickers or our school’s share of the $200,000 free DG Sport sports gear prize pool. In the past few years that we have participated in this programme, the school has received over $2000 worth of free sports gear.

From now until the end of term three, we will be collecting the Yummy cut-out labels from bags (each cut-out label is worth 10 stickers) and individual Yummy apple stickers. Yummy apples are available from New World, PAK’nSAVE and participating Four Square stores. Each class will have a collection sheet however if it is easier for families to collect them at home, any piece of A4 paper is acceptable. Once the paper is full, send it to school with your child and they can hand it in their teacher.

The more we collect, the more sports gear we get, so get going and start collecting your Yummy cut-out labels and stickers now!

Changes to Kindo Charges

We have been advised that there will be changes to how Kindo charges for transferring funds to them. There are 3 methods and only the 'bank transfer' method will be free from 6 July. Top-up options are as follows;

1. POLi - Instant transfer - 1% Service Fee, capped at $3 per transaction

2. Credit/Debit Card - Instant transfer - 2.5% +$0.50 Service fee per transaction (Visa, Mastercard, American express, China Union Pay)

3. Internet Banking (from your bank) - FREE but can take 2 days to process. When you process your payment Kindo will give you a reference number and their bank details for the payment. Kindo is also set up as a 'Bill Payee' with all of the regular banks. Please note that your order will not be processed until they receive cleared funds.

If you wish to avoid charges and pay for things like lunches frequently it may be an idea to leave a balance on your Kindo account so you do not have to top up with every transaction.

The myKindo phone app is now available for both iphone and android phones.

If you do not wish to pay via Kindo you can pay in the school office with eftpos or cash or by DC straight to the school's bank account - 06-0153-0216435-00.

Spare Clothes
Please make sure your child has spare clothes in their bag.  Wet and muddy children will need to be collected from school if they don't have dry clothes to change in to.

The big move is underway!  Rooms 5-8 are relocating to the hall for Term 3 while their classrooms get refurbished.
In light of Covid-19 we were unable to have a whanau hui this term so we are having it during the school holidays.

Nau mai haere mai whanau ka toa.
Let's celebrate Matariki at Te Manawa Library, 11 Kohuhu Lane, Westgate on July 6th at 1pm.  Bring the whanau and a plate to share.
For those interested there is a taonga puoro workshop for kids 5-13 years earlier that day 10:30-12:30.  Register your interest on the Creative Henderson Massey Facebook page or Te Manawa library.

Student Voice

PTA
Firstly a huge thank you to Fresh Choice Waimauku and Pak'n'Save Westgate, and of course all the parents and students, who supported last week's Hot Dog Day.  We sold 579 Hot Dogs so it was a huge success!

The PTA held a meeting on Monday night to start planning for Ag Day and it's going to be bigger and better this year with more games, more activities and more prizes!!! But we need your help! We’ll need helpers on the day of course (more on that at a later date) however at this stage we are seeking donations of items which can be used for game prizes – think soft toys, kids games, sports equipment, arts and craft packs – plus items that can be sold on the day such as potted plants and second hand cookbooks. So if you are having a clear out over the school holidays or are just looking at de-cluttering please consider donating suitable items to the PTA.  A drop box will be located in the school office during Term 3 to collect items for Ag Day.

Last year the PTA were lucky enough to receive donations/sponsorship from a number of local businesses, which enabled the purchase of specific prizes for the day e.g. the prizes for the Gumboot Throw. Once again the PTA needs to source a small number of major prizes. If you or your business is in a position to support this event through donations, sponsorship or items for prizes, we would love to hear from you.

The next meeting of the PTA will be Monday 10 August at 9am in the staffroom, all welcome.

Community Notices
To our Auckland whānau
We would like to extend our gratitude for the support you showed our healthcare workers during the COVID-19 lockdown. During this period, there were national restrictions on services able to be offered to minimise the risk of spreading COVID-19. This included restrictions on routine dental treatments and check-ups.  We kindly request your continual support as we commence our COVID-19 Recovery Plan. For the Children’s Community Dental Service (Auckland Regional Dental Service), this means we need to firstly offer our dental appointments to children of highest clinical need before routine check-ups can be offered.

We apologise in advance for the delays this will cause for children who are due a routine check-up. Please be assured that we will contact you as soon as we are able to offer your child an appointment with our service. If you would like to update your contact details and include an email address on your child’s file, please email ARDS@waitematadhb.govt.nz.  In the meantime, if your child is in pain or you have immediate concerns with their teeth, please phone your nearest Children’s Community Dental Service clinic or 0800 TALK TEETH. Our staff will be available to discuss your concerns with you directly, and will offer your child an appointment if required.  For more information as well as our top tips for keeping your child’s smile bright, please visit ARDS@waitematadhb.govt.nz.
Kumeu Library has a fabulous programme of fun, free activities for school-aged children during the July school holidays, starting on Monday 6 July!  The theme for this school holidays is “Shine Bright”, and there are some great activities planned.  Activities will run every day at 10.30 from Monday to Saturday, and our activities include: Creating your own light-up bug, testing your knowledge with a space-themed Kahoot! Quiz, making and decorating a shiny 3-D star, and creating stained glass window art - keep an eye on our Facebook page www.facebook.com/kumeulibrary to find out what is happening each day, or pick up a brochure from the Library.  And we’ll also have activities you can do with your children in the Library at your own leisure such as the scavenger hunt.
