Dear Church Family,
I wanted you know that the Lord has called me to become the Director of Pastoral Care (Chaplain) at Franke at Seaside in Mount Pleasant. My resignation as your Pastor will culminate with my last Sunday, August 11, 2019.
As many of you already know, I will certainly miss my church family at St. Johannes. We have loved, served, cried, rejoiced and grown in countless ways through fellowship, mutual support, sacramental worship and music, and various forms of service to our community and world. Our membership grew by 18 new members in the two years of my ministry here, thanks to the work of God’s Holy Spirit and your efforts, support and prayers. Be encouraged! Never stop standing and serving alongside each other and to believe that God has a new horizon in store for you and all of St. Johannes.
God has taught me much during my ministry here, and I am so very grateful. Many of you have become close friends, and I pray that we will always remember that it was God who led me to St. Johannes for such a time as this, and it is God who is now leading me to Franke as their next Chaplain. I thank God for your prayers and belief in me as your pastor and I will forever recall those of you who provided encouragement through the peaks and valleys of our earthly journey.
As I depart, I have confidence that you are in good hands with our Bishop and his staff. The Bishop has already selected a supply pastor who will continue to provide pastoral care and meaningful leadership. So come together in support and purpose; and may the mission of Christ always cause you to work together as the visible presence of God. Let prayer, God’s Spirit and kindness always be your bedrock. God loves you and will supply your needs.
And finally, please know that I will continue to hope and pray for your best. You will always have a special place in my heart.
Yours in Christ,
Alvin Shrum, Pastor
