"Politicians and diapers must be changed often, and for the same reason."
- Mark Twain
Hi again Friends,

I didn’t think I’d be sending you another email so quickly. But desperate Doug’s attempt to cling to his Commission seat has clearly created opportunities for his political action committees (PACs) and special interest groups to try to help him win re-election by running a smear campaign and attack mailers against me.

The first one hit mailboxes on Tuesday and was distributed by the local firefighter’s union PAC, by the brother of a firefighter who saved my life 15 years ago.  Shame on them!  Now, JTL Attack Mailer #2 is from a brand new PAC called Committee to Elect Real Conservatives. Headquartered in Tallahassee, it was created just a month ago by a guy named Josh Cooper who runs a company that does opposition research on candidates running for office.

Based on the content of this goofy mailer, it seems likely that it was funded by people from the sugar industry who don’t appreciate my statements and positions on behalf of our river.

I kind of feel sorry for the people who wasted their money on this attack mailer.  It’s amateurish and even has a typo in the word “political.” You’d think their campaign operatives could spell that word correctly. Political strategists advise not to share the negative mailer info because then you are just spreading misinformation about yourself, but this piece is so ridiculous I am including it here for you.

The most amusing part? It accuses me of being a “fake environmentalist.”

Now, I know I’m not perfect, but even my enemies would have to agree that I’m a real, devoted, passionate environmentalist!

These people clearly don't understand Martin County.Voters won't fall for a blatant attempt to divide our community along party lines over the river-- which is something we all agree on.

Polling numbers show me beating Doug!

That’s why they’re sending out these attack mailers - to try to eat away at my lead.  There will be more mud-slinging mailers hitting Republican voter’s mailboxes during the next two weeks.  I need your help to fight back. Please go to my website right now and contribute as much as you can.  I need to raise $12,500 within the next 48 hours so we have time to respond with our own ads and mailers.
Again, I find the tactics of Doug Smith and his PACs repulsive.
Where I come from, real men do their business face to face.
They don’t hide behind PACs and misleading postcards.
With your help, we can bring a new, more positive energy to the County Commission and solve our community's problems together.  Please vote for me when early voting begins on Aug 20 through August 27 or on Election Day, August 30.

Thank you so much for your steadfast support,

Jacqui Thurlow-Lippisch
