New Program Directors Look Forward to 2018 Season at Sagamore

Sagamore welcomes our new Program Director and Assistant Program Director/Naturalist to our staff this season. In addition to working with our long established presenters for Road Scholar and the "grands" camps, they are developing a series of new experiences that will get our guests out and about in the forest surrounding Sagamore.

Jen Maguder is Sagamore's new Program Director. She grew up near Buffalo, New York and fell in love with the Adirondacks while attending Paul Smith’s College where she received her Bachelors in Environmental Science.  Since her time at Paul Smith's she has worked in Environmental Education and Naturalist positions in Western and Central New York.  Among her Adirondack accomplishments are two seasons as a High Peaks Summit Steward with the Adirondack Mountain Club and achieving "46er" status in 2016. Jen enjoys learning about Adirondack history, climbing local mountains, and paddling the pristine lakes near Sagamore.  In winter she keeps busy with snowshoeing, cross country skiing, and snowboarding.

Jon Gatti, Sagamore's new Assistant Program Director and Naturalist started last year at camp as an intern and decided to stick around for another season as a staffer. He is a native Mainer and graduated from the University of Maine with a degree in Wildlife Ecology. This winter Jon held down the fort by living at Sagamore from February on. He added ice fishing and snow shoeing to his Adirondack bucket list. Jon will be working on a variety of programs this year including naturalist tours, grands camps, and programs in the Historic Great Camps SMA that surrounds Sagamore.

Jen and Jon will benefit from Nancy Sue Foltzs experience as she continues her work as resident artist and as the Manager of our "Grands" camps as well as Road Scholar host. She will split her time between working with program participants in the lower complex and in the Hen House encouraging the creation of art by children and others.

Please stop by and say hello to all of the staff by visiting Sagamore this season.

Artist Visits Sagamore

David Oster, a Mohawk Valley artist who specializes in detailed pen and ink architectural views stopped by Sagamore this week. He has completed a view of the Main Lodge that captures the spirit of William West Durant's work in intricate detail. It takes David many hours of work to complete his pen and ink drawings in the studio after photographing and sketching them in the field. The view of Sagamore will be scanned and turned into prints and note cards that will be available at the Sagamore Gift Shop later this season.
