CONGRATULATIONS TO ONE OF OUR OWN!
IN APRIL 2018. CATHERINE CASSERLY, A LONG TIME PARISHIONER AT ST BASIL'S, RECEIVED THE SOVEREIGN'S AWARD FOR VOLUNTEERS WHICH RECOGNIZED THE EXCEPTIONAL AND SIGNIFICANT VOLUNTEER ACHIEVEMENTS OF CANADIANS FROM ACROSS THE COUNTRY IN A WIDE RANGE OF FIELDS. FOR MORE THAN 50 YEARS, CATHERINE HAS BEEN A DEDICATED AND PASSIONATE VOLUNTEER, A FOUNDING MEMBER OF SEVERAL ORGANIZATIONS GEARED TOWARD SUPPORTING CHILDREN, WOMEN, REFUGEES, THE ENVIRONMENT AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT. AT ST.BASIL'S SHE HAS CHAIRED MANY COMMITTEES AND SERVED ON PASTORAL COUNCIL FOR 12 YEARS. SHE CONTINUES TO VOLUNTEER ON THE REFUGEE COMMITTEE AND THE CATHOLIC WOMENS LEAGUE.
REFUGEE FAMILY PICNIC
THE KREIT FAMILY ARRIVED IN OTTAWA ON JULY 12, 2018. THEY ARE LIVING IN THE HENRY FARM AREA, GETTING FAMILIAR WITH OTTAWA AND LEARNING ENGLISH. THANKS TO THE GENEROSITY OF ST BASIL'S PARISHIONERS THE FUND RAISING GOAL OF $25,000 HAS BEEN ACHIEVED IN RECORD TIME.
Mom - Rihab, Dad - Ibrahim, Kjalil, Sara, Loreen and Pierre dressed and ready for their first winter in Ottawa
On September 1st, St. Basil's held its first corn roast. The community came together to celebrate the beginning of a new church year with an evening BBQ potluck. Over 80 people joined in the outdoor picnic fun and we look forward to seeing everyone at future community events!
On September 9, 2018, Father Daryold Winkler was installed as pastor of St. Basil's Church by Auxiliary Bishop Christian Riesbeck. We welcome Father Daryold in our community as he continues his journey in hope with us.

The Knights of Columbus treated the community to a wonderful welcome back brunch in September.

CWL LEARNING SERIES ON FAITH JOURNEYS
Those attending the presentation by Saafa Founda of the Christian-Muslim Dialogue Group were impressed by the many similarities between Christianity and the Muslim religions. They both came from Abraham, as does Judaism. Saafa explained many traditions and cultural practices of Islam during a lengthy question period.
ALL SAINTS MASQUERADE PARTY
The All-Saints Family Masquerade Party was held on November 3rd. This community hot dog and pot luck featured wonderful costumes and family fun with crafts and balloons. We look forward to celebrating with everyone again soon.
FIRST SACM. SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM
A special day for the Tice family on their daughter Roslyn Edith Anne receiving her first sacrament of baptism. A joyous moment shared by all the congregation!
