Cultivating Ethical Fortitude - the building better agenda
In this article by Lindo Sibiya, she explains that in these difficult and uncertain times, it can be tempting to abandon our ethical fortitude in favor of more expedient or convenient options. This might mean compromising our values to achieve short-term goals or turning a blind eye to unethical behaviour in others. However, this can have serious negative long-term consequences, both for ourselves and for those around us.

Ethics Officer Certification Programme (EOCP)

Everybody is responsible for ethics in their organisations, but leading governance practice recommends that a specific individual – the Ethics Officer – is responsible for the process of active, practical ethics management. The Ethics Officer Certification Programme (EOCP) is designed to train these individuals. The EOCP addresses the Integrity Management framework and the King IV Code on Corporate Governance and is delivered by experts in the field.
All newly-certified Ethics Officers are publicly recognised on TEI’s website and automatically become TEI Supporters with the first year of subscription paid for.

The Ethix App | Stimulating ethics talk in your organisation has just become much easier

Having an ethics initiative running in your organisation is one thing, but having your employees actively engage with your ethics activities is another. That’s where the Ethix app comes in.
Easy to use, the Ethix app allows your organisation to keep the topic of ethics alive and your employees engaged. You can use the Ethix app standalone or choose to add to your programme from a range of supporting communication elements which can be customised to your organisation’s branding. The Ethix app is a customisable app available to trial in South Africa right now.

TEI Research Insights
We bring you research insights from research we have conducted on ethics management and measurement over the past three years. Watch this space for more insights.
Question: If non-managerial employees can be made to buy into the ethics message of the organisation, could we decrease unethical conduct?
Answer: TEI has done a deep analysis of over 80 organisations across the globe in the private, state-owned, and public sectors. This research has allowed us to test some interesting hypotheses about ethics in organisations.
It is crucial for organisations to ensure fair and equal treatment across all employees and to establish a strong leadership commitment to ethics that is cascaded down throughout the organisation. To create a culture of ethical behaviour, organisations need to identify the areas where changes are necessary and take proactive steps to promote ethical conduct and culture.
