Social and Ethics Committee Trends Survey Report 2022

The Social and Ethics Committee (SEC) Trends Survey was first introduced in 2020 to collect representative data on the SEC that can be used as a baseline for analysing trends with regards to the SEC over time. The Survey is jointly conducted by The Ethics Institute and the Institute of Directors in South Africa. The 2022 SEC Trends Survey is already the third edition of this survey.
What is unique about the SEC, is that it is a statutory committee required by legislation in South Africa. Thus, the statutory nature of the governance structure, rather than the social and ethics mandate of the committee, is unique on a worldwide scale. The current edition of the SEC Trends Survey provides insight into the nature, composition, effectiveness, but also challenges and impediments of the SEC.
