Are politicians helping us trust them?
In this article by Kris Dobie, he explains that in this time of social media and global divisions, most leaders only say what the voters (or funders) want them to say, which is exactly why it is so difficult to trust anyone. Leaders are not displaying consistency of character. They are not displaying their character at all. Perhaps because they are already balancing the interests of so many voters, funders, and allies, it is virtually impossible for them to be consistent.

Corruption Perceptions Index 2022

Transparency International’s annual CPI ranks 180 countries and territories by their perceived levels of public-sector corruption according to experts and businesspeople. It relies on 13 independent data sources and uses a scale of zero to 100, where zero is highly corrupt and 100 is very clean.
Despite concerted efforts and many hard-won gains, the CPI 2022 shows that the scale of corruption is enormous: the global average remains unchanged at a score of 43 out of 100 for the eleventh year running, and more than two-thirds of countries (68 per cent) score below 50.

Global Survey of Business Ethics 2022 - 2024

The Business Ethics Network of Africa (BEN-Africa) is proud to be associated with the 2022-2024 Global Survey of Business Ethics (GSBE) and will be responsible for collecting data for the survey pertaining to Africa. The proposed GSBE consists of two parts. Part I presents a list of themes in business ethics, which briefly describe potential challenges and opportunities in the field around the world, as they are perceived by the initiators of this GSBE. Part II contains the country- and region-reports, which focus on training and/or teaching and/or research in the field of Business Ethics.
Should you be involved in teaching, training, or research in business ethics in Africa and would like to participate, you can either complete the survey or schedule an interview. BEN-Africa is also looking for country reporters to collect data and would value your assistance. If you are interested in being a country reporter, please contact Bryan Robinson at info@benafrica.org for more information.

Crisis in Ethical leadership
It is time to sink or swim

In this article by Ronel van Wyk, she states that South Africa is experiencing a failure in ethical leadership. This failure and the impact that it has is at a catastrophically high level. The financial implications and the subsequent impact on our society are enormous. Young leaders take on the characteristics of their leaders. It is essential that leaders’ ethical behaviors are visible, consistent, have credibility, and are seen to be authentic.
Ronel is a former South African Revenue Service (SARS) whistleblower and a Certified Ethics Officer.

TEI Research Insights
We bring you research insights from research we have conducted on ethics management and measurement over the past three years. Watch this space for more insights.
Question: Is ethics awareness impactful as an intervention to improve conduct and culture in an organisation?
Answer: TEI has done a deep analysis of over 80 organisations across the globe in the private, state-owned, and public sectors. This research has allowed us to test some interesting hypotheses about ethics in organisations.
Most organisations and ethics officers/managers tend to make ethics awareness a big part of their ethical culture change initiatives. It is often the first port of call for most organisations that are trying to manage their ethics. However, how impactful are these initiatives in improving overall conduct (i.e., reducing unethical behaviour) in the organisation?
