The Next World BioEconomy Forum - for the first time in Belém!

The World BioEconomy Forum will be held for the first time in the beautiful forests of the Amazon, in the capital of the state of Pará, Belém! Within the event, we will feature impressive speakers from academia, policy and industry, from all corners of the world, bringing their insights to Brazil to inspire development opportunities for the region.
18-20 October 2021

WCBEF is joining forces with Ibá, ABAG, and the state of Pará to have an unforgettable Forum as a hybrid event in Belém.
WCBEF Founder, Jukka Kantola

When asked why the Forum is happening in Belém this year, Jukka states:

"We would like to give the floor to high-level representatives from Belém to tell their narrative about what they are doing within the arena of the circular bioeconomy. On the other hand, the Forum will offer the perfect opportunity for stakeholders of the circular bioeconomy from all over the world to have a better understanding of the situation as it stands in Brazil."

Governor of Pará, Helder Barbalho
"I would like to greet everyone involved, especially our partners from ABAG and Ibá."

"We are all very happy to receive WCBEF for the first time ever outside of Finland. Nothing more natural than having this meeting in the heart of the Amazon in Pará. I wish to say that I am very happy to see the organization of this very unique event. It is great to see the beginning of partnerships for the sustainable development of the region."

"I want to underline our enthusiasm in receiving all of you in the land of Pará and the Amazon. This will be a new chapter in the efforts in the climate agenda. And the development of new options for reservation."

President of ABAG's Board of Directors, Marcello Brito
"The bioeconomy, in its most significant essence, based on the highest science and technology, is still at the very early stages in a developing country like Brazil. Agribusiness, services, and industry have shown tremendous success in the south, southeast, and central-western part of Brazil, where the top and latest technology is applied.  Our challenge is how to promote an efficient and accessible bioeconomy in the Amazon region. A place as large as 41% of the total European area, land of the highest biodiversity in the world, home of plants, fungus, and many other still unknown species, that has proven to be a new biotechnology paradise. The Amazon forest is a place to be discovered by visionary bioeconomist investors."
